Seems my kindle fire is not charging despite plugged for 2 days. Any solution? Thanks. A lot!

Try a hard reset:

Disconnect from the charger and press and hold the power button for 30 full seconds. When the Fire cycles down completely, press the power button once to turn it back on, and then try charging. Note that if this is a new Kindle Fire model, there is no charging light like the 1st generation has.

When I had that problem with another device I plugged it into another socket and for whatever reason that worked. You might try that. Make sure that both ends of the cord are completely plugged in. The other thing is you might try another cord/plug to see if it is defective. If you have tried all that then call CS to get another one. Good luck

We own 5 Kindles between my wife and myself. Two Kindle Fires 1st generation, two HD's and a reader. The holding the button seems to work and if it doesn't the first time, wait a minute, to let your finger rest, and try it again. thanks kwajkat, your suggestion does work.

I charged my brand new Kindle Fire HD for 24 hours straight, uninterrupted. It only charged from 38% to 69% during those 24 hours. There's clearly an issue. We shouldn't have to turn the thing on and off a few times just to get it to charge!!! NOT acceptable. It should charge as soon as I plug it in, period. Between this issue and the sound issue, I'm thinking I should have waited for the iPad mini!

Natalie,

Were you trying to charge the KFHD using the USB cable plugged into a PC's powered USB port? If so, the problem may stem from your PC's power management that puts it into sleep mode after a specified period of time. At that point most PC's cut off the power to their USB ports. Try using a wall charger. If you have a wall charger for another device, give it a try.

I sure hope you purchased the wall plug charger. Using the USB will take an eternity. The wall plug charger is unbelievably fast and imo a necessity. My original wall plug charger did not work so while I was waiting for a replacement, I plugged my Kindle into a USB port and it had not reached 100% in two days. The wall charger is the answer.

The hard reset works even when the Fire (1st generation) is completely and totally dead.... or at least the charging light completely and totally refuses to light up! My Fire appeared dead, I plugged it in and missed the light.... I double checked the integrity of the charging cord on my other, old Kindle and it was fine. So I plugged it back in and went to sleep hoping it was just so drained that there was a lag on the light; not so. In the morning it was still refusing to charge or turn on at all. I tried the hard reset on what appeared to be a dead device and voila.... it works! Thanks for the information everyone!

Yup, you discovered why the little light on the first gen KF was such a PITA. Though convenient when it worked, it is extremely unreliable in a variety of circumstances and leads users to give up when they should do exactly as you did.

I have two 1st Generation Fires with this problem. Here is what has worked for me:

1. Use a powered micro USB cord OTHER than the stock charger. Turn WiFi off. If asleep, it will charge about 10% an hour.
2. Put something about 1/4 to 1/2 inch high under the plug to pry it up a bit when resting on a table.
3. Reboot if you have enough power, or hard reset if not.
4. Wiggling and reinserting the plug can help.
5. Warm the USB plug up by plugging something else for a few minutes first.
6. For 2nd generation KFs and on, install a battery monitor app. After trying one of the above, check it after about 6 minutes to see if the charge went up by at least 1%. If it did, LEAVE IT ALONE. It will sleep and start charging again.
7. Immediately charge it when the charge falls under 15%. NEVER let the battery drop below 5%.

Finally, if nothing else works, two more drastic things you can try:

1. Using needle nose pliers, very gently try bending the small flat receptacle in the Fire's socket towards the screen a bit.
2. Root the device and install a ROM that doesn't automatically wake it up when a plug is inserted.

After having this problem for about 9 months, I have still managed to charge it using the above methods.

I had the same issue. Plug it in and press and hold power button 30 seconds. Really. 30 seconds. Should do a full reboot then start charging.

charging is problematic. there no consistent pattern - takes most of the day to get it full charged. Cannot figure out how to get it fuller charged from 5% without repeated interventions.

My Kindle Fire has just quit charging. I have tried the 30 sec shut down, restart, and that did not work. I have 3 plugs and there is no charge occurring from any of them. I haven't even had the kindle one year yet. Any suggestions?

Got a first gen Kindle Fire, it does not charge, nor does the hard reset work. I replaced the battery with one bought here at Amazon, and it now powers up, but from the existing charge from the new battery, which is depleting, it still does not charge. Took it apart to check the USB micro port, it is not loose or wobbly at all, like some people have reported. Nothing wrong with the charger, as I tested it on my Kindle e-reader, blackberry charger or USB cable do not work either. Left it charging overnight, no change. I don't live in the US, so returning not really an option.

My kindle fire stopped charging after the software update. No charger in my house will charge it. Not the usb charger, not the cell phone charger, not its original charger will work. Did the hard reset and still nothing. Been trying to charge the unit for 3 days to no avail.

I had the Kindle fire 1st generation. Had same charging problem. Called Amazon Kindle support. They sent me a new one. Four months later same problem with second one. Called Amazon Kindle support again... I received a new Kindle Fire 2nd generation last week (with no ads) . Amazon Kindle support will help. I have always had very courteous persons when talking to them. I guess I said all that to say... call Amazon Kindle support.

My last call I was told by Kindle support that the Kindle Fire 1st gen does have issues with charging. He specifically said that I would not have the same problem with the kindle fire 2nd gen.As a side note.... I really do like the Kindle Fire 2nd gen. The changes they made were very positive.

John,

Which Kindle Fire do you have? First gen? Second gen? HD? non-HD? 7"? 8.9"? What software update are you talking about?

I am also having charging problems. Have had the unit for exactly 12 months and am on my second charger. Sometimes I wiggle the charger and it works. Sometimes I unplug and replug and it works, Sometimes neither work. Very frustrating unit! Question- If you use a different charger does it have to be a certain type or are all chargers the same? I have a SUB microcable with attachments. Don't want to ruin the unit.

Thanks
