I have a first generation Kindle Fire which can be fully charged in about 4 hours or so. The Kindle I just purchased needs about 11 hours it seems. I got the 7" HD 2013 and I am ready to send it back. They sent what is needed to charge it and I plug it into the wall and yes I turn it off and it takes forever to charger. Not happy at all. Does anyone have experience with buying the adapter for fast charging, I have used my first generation kindle cord and it's still slow. What is the difference in the two cords a regular kindle cord and the fast charging adapter.

Thanks for the Thoughts.

Which model of 'first generation Kindle' are you referring to? Clarification: the 1st gen Kindle Fire?

Sera - The charging cord on a 1st generation Kindle (sold in 2007) won't work on any other Kindle.

Try rebooting it following these instructions. If that doesn't resolve your issue, contact customer support.

TO REBOOT YOUR KINDLE FIRE:
For 1st Gen Fire (2011 model), 2nd Gen Fire (2012 model) and Fire HD (2012 model):
Make sure it has at least a 50% charge. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for a full 30 seconds (count them). Disregard any messages to shut it down.
Press the power button again to turn it back on.
The "kindle fire" screen will appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

For Fire HD2 and Fire HDX (2013 models):
Make sure it has at least a 50% charge. Leave it plugged in.
Hold the power button for a full 20 seconds disregarding any 'Power Off' notices.
Stop pressing the power button.
The flickering "kindle fire" logo should appear and it will turn back on.

TO CONTACT KINDLE CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Click on this link and fill in the information. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html
You may have to sign in. I would use the PHONE or CHAT options.
Do *NOT* use e-Mail.
CALL ME under the PHONE tab is great if available.
They will call you within minutes.

I use the charging cable from my 1st Gen Fire or this one - Amazon Kindle 9W PowerFast Adapter for Accelerated Charging - and they both work great.

The new 7" HD should not take that long to charge via a wall outlet. Are you using the black charger that came in the box? Are you turning off Wi-Fi when you're charging it? If not, try that.

If you are using the black charger, try a hard reset. Remove from charger, then hold the power button for 30 seconds (time it), and ignore all notices asking if you want to shut down. Release the button, then wait for the Fire to turn off. Turn it back on again.

Then try recharging it again. If it still takes 11 hours, contact CS for a replacement. I had a 7" HD for a few weeks (returned it for other reasons and got an HDX instead) and it never took longer than 4 hours to charge.

The Kindle sold in 2011

Artist says:
The very first e-ink Kindle, that was sold in 2007? That charger would never even connect to a Fire since it doesn't have a usb plug.

That's why we're confused about what you're writing.

Look here and tell us exactly which of these Kindles you have:

Sera - The charger from the very first Kindle won't even connect to any other Kindle. They didn't use the micro USB connection. If you're using a charger from an e-ink Kindle, that's your problem. You need to get a PowerFast charger that's at least 9W/1.8 amps to charge it like the one I linked to above.

If she bought the new 7" HD, she would have gotten the charger in the box. That's why I'm confused about why she wrote that Amazon sent her what she needed.

We obviously need more information, but I'm starting to feel like a dentist here.

I got the Charger in the Box with my New Kindle HD 7" I have had it about a week now. My 2011 Kindle chargers faster. I have used that cord but still this new one seems to take forever. It is a 16GB.

Thanks

Yes, but those chargers are only the 5W ones that really work on an e-ink Kindle. They only ship the PowerFast chargers with the 8.9" Fire HDX.

I know I realize now the Kindle I am talking about is the first Kindle Fire.

Sera - Get one of these - Amazon Kindle 9W PowerFast Adapter for Accelerated Charging

Or these:
AmazonBasics Wall Charger with USB Outlet (2.1 Amp Output)

Have you tried that charger on your new Fire? If so, and it doesn't charge as fast, contact customer service.

Thanks so much, is that better than the one they sent with the new Kindle.

I have and I think I will follow your suggestion. Thanks

Mine charges in less than 4 hours, and I'm using the black charger that came with my 7" HDX.

**I just read the product page, and it says that it charges in less than 6 hours. I guess I'm just lucky. But it shouldn't take 11 hours. My 7" HD didn't take that long, either.

You're welcome.

I know Bruce said he'd get that "low power source" warning when he used the included charger with his HDX. I've never taken mine out of the box. I use my 1st Gen one or the PowerFast one I got for my HD.

I get a warning sometimes when I plug it in that I won't be able to use the Fire while it's charging because of a "low power source." I just unplug it and then plug it in again, it sees the better charger, and I'm able to charge and play at the same time.
