New Kindle user here. Love it. I've been combing the forums for ways to share notes/highlights. Seems like there are a few who have suggested this idea, but I think it needs more consideration:

I'd like to be able to share my notes/highlights with people I specify by book directly over the Kindle network. This would be amazing for reading groups or just reading through a book with a friend. What do y'all think and can we get this going immediately? :) Thanks.

You can share your notes and highlights directly from your Kindle using Twitter or Facebook. I'm afraid there is no way to share only with certain people or by using 'the Kindle network' because there really isn't one. You have wifi or 3G access, but there's really no way to communicate directly with another user unless you want to sideload your clippings onto your computer and email them.

You can also make your notes public at https://kindle.amazon.com. Again, though, AFAIK, you can only share with everyone, not selected people.

Hi,

Is there a way to share notes for books I bought at other sites? I am a programmer & I have books I've bought through O'Reilly & Pragmatic Programmers that I would also like to share notes from but I get sharing not supported message.

Thanks!

Not through Amazon's servers. They can only store information on electronic materials they sell. Distribution rights aren't granted outside of that sort of business relationship.

I have a hard time believing that distribution rights are what prevents Amazon from syncing notes with books other than those bought from Amazon.
