'The book could not be opened...' error??

I haven't accessed my Kindle for PC for a month or so. Today almost every book I try to open, whether new or not, gives me this error. It says: The book could not be opened. Please remove the book from your device and redownload it.

I have removed books, redownloaded them, uninstalled Kindle for PC and reinstalled, etc.

Anyone else have this problem?

Everything was fine last time I used my PC a month ago...

I made it clear to my PC that I was about to upgrade to an iPad, then it sort of started working.

Delete the ebooks on PC
De-register and then register Kindle for PC
uninstall and reinstall Kindle for PC.
Your books should appear in the archive.
Then just double click on each one to redownload.

Thanks Christopher. Deregistration/re-registration worked for me without having to uninstall/reinstall the software.

just came back to let you all know somebody named named Valerie on kindle support 800 # told me how to fix the problem when it happens. Like someone else said. For Kindle on PC CLOSE your KINDLE APP then Go into MY DOCUMENTS > find the MY KINDLE CONTENT folder > and DELETE that folder > RE OPEN the Kindle on your desktop > RE REGISTER > then RE DOWNLOAD each book

Turns out its a memory problem just like deleteing files in your cache. That's al ot quicker and easier than re downloading the whole Kindle app like the last girl in customer service had me do.

I exited(closed) my Kindle application
De-registered my Kindle for PC on the amazon website (a simple click-easy enough)
went into "My Documents-> My Kindle Content" and deleted the files in that folder

and then opened up my Kindle and it loaded fine and my books were working again

problem solved took all of about 5mins...not even

hope that helps

ALSO if your 'kindle content' isn't in the 'my documents' folder (i.e. if your ebooks are being saved somewhere else on your PC) you can find out from the Kindle App..just go to 'options' in the toolbar and then 'content'

I just wanted to add that for Mac users, the My Kindle Content folder will probably not be in the Documents folder, but in your Library/Application Support/Kindle. (To know for sure, go to Preferences on the Kindle menu and look under Content Folder.)

Worked for me too. I found out the hard way that you've got to de-register with Amazon first, then delete the My Kindle Content file in My Documents, then re-open the app.

This is certainly a large reason why DRM is a fail. It does nothing to prevent piracy and only punishes those of us who buy things legit. The problem with de-registering and re-registering is when it happens on an airplane at 30,000 feet.

If companies feel compelled to DRM their product, they need to ensure that those of us who actually buy the product can use the product.
