My wife got a gen 1 Kindle Fire that she *never* uses that I'm absconding for a cross-country flight towards the end of August.
Working in the IT/Security field, I know quite well to approach things like open wi-fi in, say, airport terminals with protection, and normally I'd just open an SSH tunnel on my laptop and push all the traffic through that, which works well.
I'm hoping to *avoid* bringing my laptop if at all possible...it's just one more thing to keep track of.
Has anyone had any success getting a gen 1 Fire to use some sort of protected connection? Or am I stuck bringing my laptop?
(I'm not above rooting or anything...I've had 4 different Android phones, and the *first* thing I do on them is root them, followed by removing the vendor bloatware)
