My Kindle sat for a couple of months with the battery dead, and now I can not get it to turn on. The Orangish yellow light is on.

Did you try to charge it until the light turned green? Batteries can die if you don't use them for a few months.

How long have you been charging it?

I have been charging it at least two hours. Ugh I hope it is not dead.

Give it some time...

Treat it like a new device. Leave it charging overnight.

Even after the light turns green, leave it alone for at least 12 hours.

Then try a thirty second press on the power button to restart it. Press the button and hold it down for a full thirty seconds. Ignore the screen and count the time.

this a,we,some, it sounds like the screen is cracked inside. They don't usually survive squishing or torque, both of which likely occurred if it was on a soft surface when she sat on it.

This is great advice - it worked for my "dead" Kindle. Thanks Roy.
