My grandfather has a Kindle Fire that we got him for X-mas in 2011 ~ well just recently he hasn't been able to get the adapter to charge the device. The plug is very loose and you have to get it in just a certain position for the device to charge...does anyone have any suggestions for remedy?

You will have to call Kindle Customer Service and see what they can do. Being a 1st generation though you are past the 1 year warranty, they may offer a discount on a refurbished unit.

You can also call around to your local electronics repair places and see if anyone can fix the port. It may be a simple fix and it may not be depends on the design.

I have the same problem on mine and my daughters Kindle. Mine is 6 months old and hers is less than 2 months old. What was the outcome? The devices are now unusable.

I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas 2011. After about 6-7 months, I started having difficulty getting the unit to charge properly. I finally called Kindle Customer Service Dec 2012. THe rep told me this was a problem they were seeing in the Kindle Fires. Apparently they believe it to be caused by users reading while the unit is plugged into and is charging. They were very nice and sent me a replacement Kindle Fire within 7 days. I had to send them the one I had but they supplied the shipping box and a prepaid label. It was very stress free.

My Kindle Fire was just out of warranty - by a couple weeks. The CS guy told me that this was an issue with the Kindle Fire, if you read/use it while it is plugged in and charging. Which I do. They went ahead and did an exchange for me, at no cost to me. They sent me the new one, and I returned the old one in the same packaging. It was really simple, and they were really nice.

I can not find the number to customer service. My Kindle fire is doing the same thing. What is the problem with recharging?

Based on what I was told , if you use the device while it is plugged in, it causes the little charging pins to loosen, so it won't charge properly. If you just charge it and leave it alone, and use it only when it is unplugged, then you probably won't have an issue with it. The number I called was

See I bought mine back in April of 2012 well mine started doing this in April of this year (a week or two after the warranty deadline), when I contacted them they told me I had to pay for a replacement!!

Mine has gotten to the point where even if I hold mine into the charging port it will light up but it won't even charge the device now!!

Ashley - I would recommend that you speak with customer service again and ask for a supervisor if needed. You may need to be a little pushy, but if you are only a few weeks out of warranty, Amazon may still replace it.

I was only a couple weeks out of warranty back in April... Now its been almost 2 months since the deadline. I have a feeling that now its too late and since I didn't push the issue then I will have to end up paying now!!

Oh, true! I wasn't thinking about today's date. Have you tried local cell phone repair or computer repair places? Re-seating the USB port is a relatively easy fix as long as the port is not damaged (it probably just needs to be re-soldered), and they should not charge much to fix it...

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 12, 2013 11:50:28 AM PDT
NO!! I have not thought of that!! I may call around and see if there is a place around my area thats able to repair the USB port!! Its a perfectly good device other than the charging port problem so I hate to pay $169.00 for a replacement device!!

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 12, 2013 11:55:19 AM PDT
Also, there are a few ebay sellers offering the repair for $25-$35 if you can't find a local repair place.

I purchased the Kindle Fire for my husband in 2011. The charge port came loose fairly quickly. Customer service replaced it with a refurbished model. It happened again, and was again replaced. We're sick of this problem and would have to purchase a new device now anyway. Has this problem been solved with the newer devices?

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 5, 2014 8:27:09 AM PST
This problem only showed up on the original Fire.

I have a kindle and a kindle fire. Both have the same charging port issue. They won't fit tightly in port. Have to wiggle to get them to charge. DON'T buy one. Save your money and get a IPad. Poor customer service.
