Can I sideload Kindle books to my Kindle Fire?

I was wondering if I didn't have wifi, if I could sideload my kindle books to my Kindle Fire ? Do I just download the Kindle for PC app to my computer and then download the book to the app? Then connect the Fire to my computer and drag the book over? I've done it with my Nook before but wasn't sure if I could do that with the Fire. Thanks for your input.

PeepDittie says:
You can sideload but that's not quite the process. Unlike ePubs that are downloaded once and copied to other devices or computers, Kindle e-books purchased from Amazon are coded specifically for a given device, computer or app.

On the Manage Your Kindle page, instead of choosing Download to K4PC, choose Transfer via computer. Then you can sideload those files, as they'll have been coded for the device that's registered to your account.

And if you have more than one device registered to your account, Transfer via computer will ask you to select the device the book will be read on. A license for that device is included in the book file.

C. McDonald - Here are complete instructions.

http://www.amazon.com/kindletransfer

When you plug in the Kindle you may see a message about installing device drivers. When you see that just click the "Cancel" button. The computer should then go on to correctly attach the Kindle as if it were a USB drive. You should see it in the list of drives when you open your "My Computer" or "Computer" icon.

Also, the Fire must be on and not in sleep mode to be recognized as a Drive.

Matt says:
Books can go to multiple devices (the default limit seems to be six at a time). You can certainly share between your Touch and your Fire. However, books will go to one device and then you have to either load it from your archives on the other device or use the Manage Your Kindle page to send it to the second device.
