MikeJW says:
Of course you cannot download Microsoft Word to the Fire, and of course you can create documents. Check out the Fire apps for the various possibilities.

OfficeSuite Professional 6 and Documents To Go Full Version Key are both available for the Fire and I beleive that they will allow you to create and/or edit Word documents. So although they are not "Word" they may be what you are looking for. I do not use my Fire for these types of projects so I have no experience with them. I did have a version of Documents To Go on my Palm Pilot about 10 years ago and I really liked it, but that was a loooong time ago.

ETA: Here is another option:Quickoffice Pro HD (Honeycomb Tablets)

I use Office Suite Pro on my Nexus 7 and it handles .doc files fine. I imagine it will work just as well with the Fire. I use a bluetooth keyboard when I'm working with word docs. Regular price is $14.99 but it goes on sale regularly.

Yvette, that's a reasonable question.

The answer is that you can work with Word documents on the Kindle Fire, but it's not directly the Microsoft Word software. The reports are that Microsoft Mobile will arrive in "early 2013", which would mean you could get the Office software for Android devices like the Fire:

For now, I've used a couple of the apps in the Amazon Appstore. My preference is

OfficeSuite Pro

which is currently $14.99. It's not as fully-featured as Word, but it will handle the basic functions well. I've used it primarily to edit documents which had already been created, but you can also create them from scratch.

I am not connected with that app except as a user.
