Jazzy_Jeff says:
Hold the power button on for about 30 seconds until the Kindle reboots.

I also found that plugging it in to my computer was enough to get past any hiccup I had. Just wait till the screen changes to (charging) or whatever and it was fine for me. Have had to do it 2ish times since I got it in December.

I had this same problem! Looked everywhere and finally found this tip, which completely fixed it! Hold the power button down for twenty seconds. Then release and wait ten more seconds. Then press once. Should reboot. Do not know why but this really works!!!!

It works because it reboots the Kindle. Just like you would do on your PC.

I kneeled on my kindle by accident and it looks like someone scratched the cover screen. I can turn it on but I only see a few words on the bottom because the picture that was on the screen is completely frozen! What can I do?? Should I bring it to a shop?? Help me

Just Peachy says:
It can not be repaired. If you call Amazon, they may give you a discount on a refurbed Kindle. Click on Help at the top of the screen and find the "Contact Us" button.

Hi! My Kindle Fire from 2011 (I believe?) was frozen on one screen for about 8 hours. I let it die and then plugged it in. I tried to turn it back on but it won't, and it's charging.
