Kindle Paperwhite at Staples

Yesterday I checked out the Paperwhite working display unit at Staples. I wanted to see if it had the same screen problems that more than a few reviewers have described on the Amazon product page. In fact I returned two units when the Paperwhite was first introduced for the same reason.

Wow! I was amazed at how good the screen looked. No color splotches at different places on the screen and only very faint shadows at the bottom. I even viewed it in different lighting conditions and settings. Consistently white throughout the screen surface.

So I called over the store manager and asked her if I could purchase it after explaining my previous negative experiences. She declined and added they are currently sold out and yet to have any returns.

So I'm wondering...did the first batch of Paperwhites have defective screens, a situation which has now been corrected? Or has Amazon released store displays which have been individually tweaked to look more like the ones in the ads? I plan to buy one from Staples when they are back in stock to find out.

What's the difference between Fud saying "Ask Amazon", or you saying "call Kindle CS"? Same place, same results.

I don't see any reason to attack when he didn't do anything wrong.

Fud should have been banned from these forums months (years?) ago. This post was nothing to worry about, but his pattern of behavior here toward people with legitimate questions is simply unacceptable.

As we used to say in college when someone did something right who normally screwed up everything,

"One in a row!"

Actually, ask Emerald! (Or maybe wait until the wounds are healed a bit more). She has had a booger of a time with bad PW screens.

I feel a little guilty, because I ordered a PW myself, and it's *perfect*. So there was a bad batch, Amazon is replacing those as necessary, but there ARE good ones out there. I know; I haz one!

Ha! Yes! I like the "one in a row". I still think if someone wants to jump all over his case they have a lot more threads to choose from, they don't have to do it in one where he obviously didn't have his coffee yet.

Fud earned the Forum Troll award a LONG time before this post......thats like saying Charles Manson hasn't done anything mean lately - lol

Extreme comparison there. Really. Fud should have been banned long ago. But he is no CM.

But he's kinda cute. And the producers make sure he takes his shirt off at least once in every episode of Kitchen Nightmares. So, there's that.

I saw a PW at Staples last week and bought one in Oct. Both were perfect. So? You get what you get. The people who post are the Screamers. How many happy posters post?

Buy a PW if you want one. See what you get. But buy it from Amazon where you get good customer service.

I think you "opened the door" when you compared him to Charles Manson. If you are trying to prove what a great person you are, it's not working.

Look, this isn't a contest. If you don't like Fud, simply put him on ignore and you won't have to see his posts.

Surveyah, I've defended Fud on several occasions. His delivery may not be perfect but he seldom gives incorrect advice.

And calling Customer Service is not the best way to contact them. But thanks for playing. Sorry I'm all out of parting gifts.

I've never seen pics of Fud.

Oh wait, you were talking about Gordon.

Exactly. Use the ignore button if he bothers you. Problem solved.
