Kindle Fire: Must connect to the internet to play a game?

This is the message I am now getting when I try to play a game on my Kindle Fire:

"Internet Needed -- Please connect to the Internet to run this app."

I've been playing my games on my Fire since mid-November without having to to connect (Angry Birds, Collapse, Mahjong, Bejeweled).

I wonder, why do I now need to connect to the internet to play them?

(I have the 6.2.1 update installed.)

Is it a new game you just got? I think some do, but none of mine are like that. I have the new update and it hasn't affected any of mine.

No ...

weird, isn't it

Well, that's pretty strange. I guess you could call CS and ask them - maybe it's a glitch of some kind. I use those games you mentioned, too, and don't have that issue.

To contact Kindle Customer Service:
click on HELP,
click on KINDLE HELP, VideoTutorials, & TOOLS,
click on CONTACT US.
Choose the option best suited to where you are. CALL ME under the PHONE tab is great if available.
They will call you within minutes.

I find that instead of having them call you - using the chat function can be just as easy - depending on the customer service rep you get. All of my chats the past 3 weeks have been very very helpful, fast and informative. Just my $0.02

You might want to try a restart by holding the power button down for 20-30 seconds. I have to do that on my phone occasionally and it usually clears up whatever oddness is happening.

I had been playing these games all along on my Fire without connecting to the Internet.

Not sure why this changed...

But, yes, will contact CS tomorrow.

Update:

I went ahead and connected to the Internet, for a game, then exited the game.

I then opened that game again (without being connected), and voila! NO message to connect!!

I did this for each game, and no more messages to connect.

So, apparently, after an update, I may get that prompt -- a kind of "re-set" for the game?

Thanks for all your input!

Hi Michellee!

I experience this same issue the other day. I tried powering off and back on with no results so I tried what you did is hooking up to a WiFi hotspot and reconnecting and it worked for me too.

Not impressed with these bugs that keep happening.

Thanks

Are they "ad-supported" games?

I'm no expert, but I wonder if games with ads require you to connect to the internet every so often so they can download a new batch of ads to show you once the current batch "expires." In other words, it may be their way of showing you new products rather than continuing to advertise a movie that's been out of theaters for months (for example).

That's my guess, anyway.

Where did you find Mahjong for Kindle Fire? I tried to find it and couldn't.

Hi, I just got my KindleFire and have been trying to download games, without any success. How do you get to the right site? I cannot seem to find it. Also, does anyone know if you can download a video to your fire and own it? I would like to get a kids' movie for my granddaughter, but havent found one that isnt a rental for 2 days...

That is not a little bug it is the app wanting to update but can't connect because wifi is off.

KMC there should be plenty of videos available under Prime usage of which you got a 30 day free trial starting from the day you turned on the Kindle Fire. The app store is under apps, then the store on the top menu. Also when you click on that store menu item there is a free app of the day and usually it is a game.

Any game? I've seen this on Angry Birds when I finished a level and I guess it needs to download the new one.

kmc,

From your Fire's home screen, tap on "Apps" and then "Store" on the upper-right of the screen. From there, you may buy and download apps. There are other ways to do it, but that's the easiest.

As for movies, click "Video" then "Store." Sometimes there will be a "more purchasing options" button that will display a purchase price. Not all movies are available for purchase, however. When you do purchase a movie from your Kindle Fire, you will have the option to either stream it from the internet or download it directly onto your kindle.

I had the same problem today, that's how I found this forum on a Google Search.. it's not ad-related games, it's ALL games, even "Plants vs Zombies" that you could play in the desert with zero net-ability. It's a bug that apparently needs to be corrected with the next patch. But in the meantime connecting to the wifi will get rid of it.

I don't have wifi. Should I sell the kindle fire? Nowhere in the information I read did it indicate I needed wifi. My computers are connected through Ethernet wire. If this is the case I will be very disappointed. I had to drive to a stupid McDonald's to register the thing:(

This happened to me today. I was on the road (read: no internet connection available) and everything I tried to open gave me the "Internet Needed" error. These were all apps that I've been able to use on the road as late as yesterday. Not sure what caused this notification. I got home, connect to my wifi and opened the apps normally. I then turned off wifi and opened the apps again with no issue. I tried an app that I didn't open when wifi was on and still got the "Internet Needed" error. I guess I just have to open all my apps while I'm at home! :(
