I am not sure when this new feature became available because I just noticed it and did not see any announcements regarding this new feature. Maybe it was part of the most recent update. It seems to work very well when the Kindle is around the house and connected to Wi-Fi. It seems like it must be connected to Wi-Fi in order to work.

Anyone else know when this became available or have fun with this yet? I sure wish Amazon published a list of changes and new features for it's Kindle updates.

Quilting, I've been to that page and see the downloads and available updates and user guides, but I have not seen a list of what is new when there is a new update (unless I am missing it). Usually I just discover new features like the tracker by accident.

I have both sizes of the HDX and it is on both.

It appeared on May 11th on mine.

Swipe from the top > Settings > Device > Find My Kindle > On.

Then you'd go to http://amazon.com/myk and click on Devices. You'd click on your enabled Fire and use the Device Actions > Remote Alarm. It will sound an alarm for two minutes, however, it's not very loud. You need to have wi-fi on for this to work.

So you'd only be able to find it if you can hear the alarm, not track the actual location.

Well, there is also an option called "Find My Device" that brings up a fairly accurate map. You'd have to have wi-fi on and possibly the location based services would need to be turned on. I leave my location based services on all the time for a weather app I use.

It shows my HDX as being at a neighbor's house about a block away when I zoom in on it.

I can see it now -- "The Find My Device option told me that my Fire was at the house 3 doors down. I went over there and confronted them, and they told me I was crazy, that they didn't have my Kindle. Of course, I didn't believe them so we got into a fight, and I got arrested and had to post bail. Amazon should have to pay my bail!!!!!!!"

LOL! I had the same thought! I should go over and ask my neighbor why the he!! they have my Fire!

Interesting, I hadn't noticed this feature either. You'd have to be pretty close to hear the alarm that sounds and it appears the volume of the alarm is set and independent of the volume setting on the device. The alarm sounds at the same volume regardless of whether you have the volume on or at what volume. It looks like there is also a feature (on Amazon) under the same drop down menu for turning on the alarm or locating the device that allows you to do a "remote" reset back to factory defaults.

Be sure not to carry your Fire with you or they will be on to you rather quickly :)
