How can I separate my read from my unread books on Kindle Fire? Just received mine and ALL the books I've ever purchased are showing up! On my older version the books came off the screen when archeived. Can I do this on the Fire?

If you do a "long hold" on a book you will get options to "save to favorites" or "remove from device." If you select save to favorites, the book will go to the book shelves that show below the carousel. Once you have a bunch there, you can drag them around to sort them into groups. Right now it's the best we have for sorting, but Amazon has said they are working on a solution that will be included in the next update.

Thank you Amelio for showing how to put my books in some type of order on my Fire! I will be getting mine sometime in the next few weeks. I log onto this discussion board a couple of times a week to see what issues other users are having. This is helping me alot!

Thanks Amelio. Guess I'll use my old Kindle as a guide to unread books and remove the others from my device. That will make life simplier. I look forward to a solution from Amazon also.

I appreciate the information too. I was hoping there'd be a function similar to on the kindle keyboard that let you group books. I can see putting a book that I'm actively reading in "favorites," but not trying to use that to organize them.

I wish they would do collections or something. Also a way to hide certain books. I plane on using my fire for work and would love to be able to hide some books like self help that are personal.

I put my books that I am reading into my favorites. You could have a kindle for pc on your computer and then set up folders for your 'already read books' there, so that you can keep track of them. I for one, do not have any problems remembering if I read a book. If you don't plan to read the book again, you could go on line and delete the book from your account there.

I agree; I'd like to separate my read from un-read books as well as fiction from non-fiction as I go on buying sprees and usually have 30 or so unread books in my list. Since I was able to archive them on my older Kindle it was easy to see what was unread, now I'm totally at a loss when I look at all the books I ever purchased!

Would love to be able to 'group' books like I did on my Kindle 3. I have a lot of reference books, some of which I may never be 'done' with.

Hmm, I would love to be able to organize books by "collections". I hope this is added soon.

if you "remove from this device" it still leaves the picture icon there... is it possible for the book not to show up on the screen at all?

Maybe if enough of us wrote to Amazon customer service, that we'd like to be able to put our books in collections, they'll add that feature in a future software update.

I need to be able to organize my books on the kindle fire as well. I miss my collections!

I think writing to Amazon Customer Service might help - we've already lost the ability to sort boxes, maybe they didn't realize how many readers value that option.

I want some privacy to my collection. People and coworkers are always wanting to see my Fire and they don't need to see everything I am reading....like How To Deal With A Difficult Boss. Lol

I think the easiest way to keep read and unread books separate on the Fire is to make a Finished folder within the books folder, and move books that have been read to the Finished folder. They become completely transparent that way from the book shelves. You can also make subfolders within the Finished folder to separate books into series or by author. I use ES File explorer to do this.

I wish I could organize my book series in order, because when I download a new series its not as easy to figure out what order they go in as phisical books. That is an problem they need to figure out in the kindle store as whell

Sounds like a good solution but I'm not familiar with ES File Explorer. Do you do this on your computer within your Amazon account?

I was wondering this same thing. It would be nice to be able to sort by genre too. Sometimes I feel like reading a historical fiction other times I need a light hearted comedy.

I also would like to add a little privacy to my fire. I have relatives who keep wanting to play with my fire (mostly to see if its something they would like to buy) but I don't necessarily want them to know everything I'm reading. And the ability to sort my books into genres would be really great, since I organize my non-ebooks by genre, not by author or title.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 12, 2012, 5:20:16 AM PST
How do you do that D.L.?? That would be a good option.

The ES File Explorer app is in the Store. I haven't tried it yet but it got good reviews from Fire owners.

Okay now that being said, when I look at the files I can't tell what book is what ... can someone give me some instruction on how to use ES File Explorer to organize books?

Thank you Tina, I'll look for it.
