Not happy with Paperwhite. Lasts few hours and no wifi reception

I have been the proud owner of an original Kindle, and have bought several as gifts over the last few years.
Recently purchased a Paperwhite wifi version, and very unhappy.
1. Fully charged its OK. Leave it overnight, in an off state, and the next morning the battery is nearly flat.
2. Not connecting with any wifi networks.

Whilst the reading experience is good, this Kindle is worthless to me.

Any advice from the good folks at Amazon? Or shall I just throw it away and move on?

You may have a book stuck indexing which is draining the battery. Do a search for a random string of letters (xysnfn or something) and it will show you if there is something stuck.

TRied that, returned no results. Thanks for tip, but no joy for me :)

The other thing (although it shouldn't die quite that quickly) is that if you've got the wifi turned on but are out of range, it will keep on and on looking for a wifi network, and the act of looking uses more battery power than if you had a wifi it was connecting to.

Never leave the wifi on unless I am shopping, so not that issue.

Hmm, then perhaps try what CBP has said. Apart from that I've got no more ideas. But if it's not the indexing or the wifi searching, I would perhaps return it as you may have one with a bad battery which does happen.

One more thing to try first. Have you done a hard reboot? That is, hold the power button in the on position for 30 seconds (count them) and then let it restart itself. It'll take a few minutes, but if it's just some glitch, then that might sort it out.

Failing that (and obviously you'll have to leave it overnight to be able to know if that's worked), call Kindle support and see if they have any further suggestions before you quite give up.

When you say it is not connecting to any wifi networks do you have a wifi router at home or are you trying to connect to ones that just pop up on the list?

By the way, we're not "the good folks at Amazon". These forums are mostly just other Amazon customers, unless you see the words "Amazon Official" below their screen name.

We may or may not be able to solve your problems by the combined sum of our personal experience, but failing that, talking to Kindle customer service is the best bet.
