The Fire does not have an sd card slot. You can use the cloud to store your purchases though.

Well, you are kind of right. After spending a few hours on Amazon tech support today, I found out that you can't access Amazon Cloud Drive from your Kindle Fire (not even from Silk web browswer) so the only thing you can truely access is something you BUY at amazon for the fire (a movie or an MP3). If you upload ANYTHING other than MP3s to the Amazon Cloud Drive, you can't see it or access it on the Fire.

I can see the files doc's and spreadsheets I've uploaded to the Amazon Cloud. I've never tried to access them via the Fire, though.

Tech support told you you can't access the cloud drive from your Fire? Hmm. Not strictly correct! It's a pain but you certainly can browse to your cloud drive, and then you can download individual files not by using the "Download" button but instead by holding your finger on the filename and choosing the "save link" option, then renaming the file (it will go in your Downloads folder and be named clouddrive.bin) using a file explorer app or by connecting via USB or what have you.

You cannot UPLOAD anything to your Amazon Cloud Drive from the fire though.

Best to use a 3rd party cloud service at this time. And meanwhile request a usable cloud drive app using your Fire's feedback function.

Because many people don't care about expansion. Heck, even many Nook owners never use the card slot (I read the B&N forums regularly.)

In addition to my previous answer, there is no Amazon Instant Video app for Android, so if you buy a lot of digital movies from Amazon, the Fire is a much better choice.

The iPad doesn't have a SD card slot either and I'm sure it sells better than the Nook and even the Fire. In the grand scheme of things memory expansion just isn't that important.

No, the USB cord only allows for charging and accessing the Kindle via a computer, it does not have the capability to host any devices itself.

Another option is to get a wi-fi enabled storage device such as the Kensington WI-Drive that connects using wi-fi:
Kingston Digital Wi-Drive 32 GB USB 2.0 Pocket-Sized Portable Storage with US AC Adapter (WID/32GB-A)

Or the SanDisk Connect Wi-Fi Enabled USB Flash Drive. You load your data on to it from your PC/Laptop just like a regular USB flash drive. You can then download/stream data from it via it's own wi-fi network it sets up that your Kindle logs into use the free App. It has a 4 hour rechargeable battery if you wish to take it with you. (I have this one):
SanDisk Connect 32GB Wireless Flash Drive For Smartphones And Tablets- SDWS2-032G-E57

Both of these use a free app you can find on the Amazon App Store.

Did you look at Help on the device? There's a diagram. And it's not an Sr card or even an SD card. It's a microSD card.

I don't have a Fire but I think the card tray is on the top right edge if you're holding it in portrait mode with the camera at the top.

There's a user guide and a tutorial in Help (the question mark icon).

You need to come back here and remove your email address. You just gave it to every potential scammer and spammer on the internet.
