Hello everyone,
I'm looking for a Kindle Paperwhite and i've seen that it is sometimes cheaper to buy it from far away and send it where i live (in France) than to buy it on the french Amazon website.
Does anyone knows if there is some compatibility issues depending on where i bought it ?
In my case, it is the japanese one that looks the cheapest. Of course i would like to use it with my actual account on Amazon France.

Thanks for answering

the big problem is that only will ship you a Kindle. When will redirect you to (it does for me)

The reason the prices you are seeing are didn't has to do with the fact that you're seeing the price with shipping and VAT on for French residents. On the US site, you aren't seeing shipping or taxes (they're added during the check out process) and I have no idea what the Japanese process is for taxes plus they might have cheaper import duties for items from China where the kindle are produced

people have done comparisons and by the time they've calculated taxes, shipping, etc the biggest difference has been about $5 USD

Actually i was looking on a websites that take account of the shipping but it looks like Amazon doesn't send its Kindle to other countries.
I'll change a bit my question then : if i happen to know someone in the actual country (with an adress there) i'd like to buy it, will i be able to use it back home with the French Amazon Kindle Store ?

CBRetriever says:
the only things that you might have problems with are:

warranty: as you didn't buy it from and thus they might not replace it if you have problems

and if you get one with 3G, I understand (from complaints from those who have tried to use it offside Japan), that the 3G doesn't work outside of Japan

That last would be extremely likely, because Japan's 3G cellphone network operates on a different frequency band to that of most other countries. I know when I went to Japan only certain phones would work there because of it.

There is being 'thrifty', and then there is being 'psychotically cheap'. Don't Scrooge McDuck yourself into trouble. Imagine getting a cheap, foreign, Kindle...and not being able to register it...or being able to register it, but only being able to get products (books, movies, etc) for it from the foreign country of the foreign language only. It might happen. Contact Customer Service, and ask them, if you want to know for sure. I tend to imagine the worst, and prepare for it, so I have few problems. Of course, I also realize that SOME things are worth spending a bit of money on.

Erin, you choose the language of the Kindle on first boot usually and you can change the language in the menu. All Kindles can be registered on any account and it is the account that determines which Amazon you buy from (which books, movies, etc are available) as well as your physical location. It has nothing to do with where you bought the Kindle.

As pointed out above you will run into issues if there is a hardware issue - like buying the ATT Fire and trying to link it to a Verizon network.

or having to return it for a problem as they won't pay shipping except within the covered countries and they won't ship a replacement outside those same countries
