My kindle, not the new Fire, won't wake up. I get no response when I "slide and release" to wake it up, and no green light by the slide button, either. It's like it's frozen. Any ideas?

Have you tried plugging it into charge and then turn it on?

Try rebooting it. Make sure it's unplugged and hold the power button for 30 seconds (count it out!) Let it sit and the screen should flash and come up to a picture of a boy sitting under a tree with a scroll bar at the bottom. DON'T push any buttons. Let it sit. It should come up and show your categories with 0 books in each one. DON'T panic and DON'T push any buttons. Your books should refill into their categories. WHen it's done, turn on your wifi and your archives will refill.

The Blade says:
First make sure it has a full charge. Then slide the sleep button to the right and hold it for 30 seconds. This will cause a restart sequence. Be patient, it will take several seconds to begin the restart.

This may help.

Just Me! beat me to it. :-)

I had plugged in to to charge, but it still wouldn't wake up. I did get it to reboot. I had tried that before, but I don't think I held the slide switch long enough. So it did reboot, but the battery, which had a nearly full charge, now indicated it needed to be recharged. So I've plugged it in to recharge. Any ideas why the battery would drain when it freezes like that?
Thank you so much for the help. I was thinking I was going to have to get a new Kindle.

Glad the reboot worked! If you left your wi-fi on, it might have drained the battery. I have had that happen before, but after a normal charging it worked great! The first time I had to reboot my Kindle I nearly cried thinking it was lost forever! LOL

A year and 1/2 later, and your answer fixed my old, cheap Kindle. Bless you. I need it. Donna
