Does anyone know if I can I delay notification of a gifted kindle book until Christmas?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 6, 2012, 8:40:51 AM PST
Do you mean a book itself? Yes, you can specify the delivery date of a Kindle book when you use the Give as Gift option from the book's product page.

Psylocide says:
Well, the user can still see that it was purchased if they have it on a wish list.

(edit: now I'm not so sure this is correct)

Really? I received several "gift" books from my Kindle wish list last September and I never saw that. I could and did update that part of the display myself but never saw any indication based on those gifts. Where did I miss that?

MommaCat says:
The default on a wish list is to show unpurchased. If they change it to all, yeah you're scrwed. Sometimes it's better to wait.

Psylocide says:
Hmm... maybe I misspoke, but I thought for sure they came off your wishlist when someone bought the item.

Maybe I'm thinking of a different registry that we were involved with, edited my post above.

Psylocide says:
Ok, that's what I was thinking. Thanks for clarifying.

Dog Lover says:
I dunno. I infer from MommaCat's post above that the WL might, in fact, show that kind of status.

If they click it FROM the wish list, it is supposed to be deleted. My experience is that is doesn't always work correctly.

Dog Lover says:
OK - Here's what I (now) think is the case.

A purchase from a wish list doesn't remove it from the list, it simply removes it from the unpurchased view of the list. (I never even tried that before this thread. I just deleted the item off the list once I received/bought it.)

Thanks to all (and the OP) for the topic. Larn sumpin ever day!

Dog Lover says:
OK - nuther question:

If appears as if the wish list isn't altered until you "accept" the gift. Am I reading this correctly? If so, then the OP won't need to worry about the giftee knowing about the gift until it is accepted by her/him. If this is true, then the "giftee" will also have the ability to choose if more than one person "gifts" the same title and can reject a gift and/or use the money instead? Is that true?

With Christmas coming up, it wold be nice to understand all the tricks/possibilities.

Thanks,

DL

A gift purchase does not have to be from a wishlist. It you have an email address for someone you can send them a gift. I believe you can schedule the email that the giftee will get.

MommaCat says:
I think when you buy from your own wishlist it deletes it, but when someone buys you a gift it hides it.

DL - You got a lot of gifts for your bday - did you get duplicates?

eta: And everyone already had your email?

No - but the item remained on the list until I deleted it (even after I accepted the item.) Howsomeever, I didn't check that display option. Frankly, I don't even recall ever seeing that display option set at the top right corner of the WL. Is that a fairly new thing?

DL

EtA: No one has my email. It is hidden even when giving me gifts. (Want to check it out? LOL!)

MommaCat says:
I feel stupid. I can't figure out how to give a gift from a WL! Jeezo!

But, no, the purchased, unpurchased option hasbeen there a while.

OHHHH! All those books are DTB's! Darn DL.

Dog Lover says:
LOL! You do know, I trust, that I was teasing about using the gift for me, right?

Anyway - I have a "Kindle Wish List." That is where the digital stuff is.

Oh boy. Hope Pearson doesn't show up on this thread. I can only imagine what he will have to say about that!

LOL!

Dog Lover says:
Seriously, If you just wish <snark> to test how to give an ebook from a wish list, you can use mine (The Kindle Wish List) to test. You will see a screen (before purchase is complete) where you can enter a personal note. If you exit that screen without "continuing", you'll see what personal information is and is not displayed about the giftee but you won't actually be completing the purchase. (In my case, no personal info is displayed.)

Just Peachy says:
When you look at your own wish list, under the name of the wish list is "Manage This List" and a little dropdown arrow. Click on that arrow and you can "edit settings". One of the settings is:

Don't spoil my surprises (What's this?)
(JavaScript must be enabled for this feature.)

MommaCat says:
As curious <hmmph> as I might be <snicker> you have <wow!> very expensive taste!

On the other hand, MY list is very long and could use some trimming and has some very inexpensive books if there are others out there who would like to test the delay theory. Also with 7 pages we can see if I notice if anything is gone if you delay delivery for say a few days.

MommaCat says:
Awww, Doggie. You are wayyyy too much! I have no idea how to "thank the sender". Does Ammy not have that option?

<As curious <hmmph> as I might be <snicker> you have <wow!> very expensive taste!>

That is why they are on the WL! I won't buy a K (or any e-)book for over $5.00.

Check your WL now to see how it has changed.

DL

Dog Lover says:
You're most welcome! No - I've requested that option because you CAN "thank" someone using another feature (can't remember which one though.)

Seriously - I also "gifted" The Hoard but set a delayed delivery date. I want to know if you can "see" that (or the one you already accepted) has been purchased via your WL.
