E. J. Bitter says:
I recently got a new iPad. I purchased a kindle book from Amazon. As I was reading the book today, I notice that in the bottom left hand ornery of the iPad Kindle App screen it says "34 hrs and 36 mins left in book"???

I thought the book was mine!

Please explain

♥ Ann says:
That's just an estimate of the time it will take you to finish the book, based on your reading speed.

You can keep the book as long as you like - it's not a time limit. ;-)

Artist says:
That means, at your current reading speed, it will take you that amount of time to finish reading the book.

It doesn't mean that it will disappear from your account after that time.

Thanks Ann and The Artist. That is reassuring and also pretty neat ( in my opinion). Now how I close the discussion?

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 7, 2014, 9:51:08 PM PST
Artist says:
You can't close it. Eventually it will fall off the first page and no one will see it.

Until sometime in 2015 somebody somehow finds it & asks some off the wall question that has nothing to do with the OP's question.

Just sayin...

King Al says:
That will definitely happen well before 2015...

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 7, 2014, 10:45:53 PM PST
LOL! Yes, it will, but it will still happen in 2015. =)

LOL, you're in fine form tonight, Kessa.

Thanks Artist. =)

I've been seeing a lot of your posts lately - I'm now waiting for the Pro banner to appear under your name.

Artist says:
Oh, no, I gave that up a long time ago, Kessa. I used to use my real name on the forums, but decided that wasn't a good idea (it began with a B). We spoke on the phone a couple of times.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 7, 2014, 11:21:40 PM PST
Oh no! *Kessa hangs head in shame*

You're not pipeline or Saintly, so my mind is drawing a blank.

I have always just assumed that you were a man - if you are a woman, did you give me a bunch of stuff for my ferrets? 2 cages & all.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 7, 2014, 11:25:33 PM PST
Artist says:
No, sorry. I am a woman. If I tell you that my name began with Bl, does that help? We spoke quite a while ago, when that Madam was threatening you.

I'm going to bed now, so I'll catch up on this thread tomorrow.

If you can't remember, don't worry about it. I just wanted you to know that they're not pinning no stinkin' badge on me!

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 7, 2014, 11:31:41 PM PST
LOL! I always guess wrong about the sex of posters, if it isn't obvious by the name. Sorry about that.

And while I can't remember your name, I do remember you now. And yes, it has been awhile. (the Bl helped).

I'm getting ready for bed myself. Later. =)

No e-book is ever yours. What you buy is a limited license to tread the e-book in question. That license remains yours when you buy it...as opposed to renting it, borrowing it, etc. The time listed is an estimate of how long it may take you to finish reading the e-book.

Thank you very much, it is 2015 and I had the exact same question. Glad the thread is still here! ;)

I was right about it being 2015, but at least your question was the same one as the OP - if you had posted it, but glad that you actually read the replies - some don't. =)

Is there a time limit to read a book I purchased on my Kindle and what do I do when I finish reading the book? I am 76 and really having trouble finding the answers. Really appreciate the help.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 27, 2015, 4:22:23 PM PDT
Dorothy, there is no time limit on reading books you've purchased.

If you see the "Time left to read" note at the bottom left of the screen, that an estimate of the time it will take you to finish the book or chapter. If you don't want to see that, tap on it to toggle through the options that can appear there.

PeepDittie says:
If you purchased it, even free, as opposed to borrowing it or renting a textbook for example, it's yours to keep. You can delete it from your device when finished and download it again should you ever want to. If you delete it from your account, though, it's no longer yours and you'd have to buy it again if you ever wanted to download it again.

Thank you Meya and Dittie you have really helped me. I really appreciate it.
