I have a 2nd Gen Kindle and recently I've been having trouble downloading books and transferring them via my computer. I recently switched from a pc to a mac laptop, and when I connect my Kindle to my new mac and open it, the folders don't appear. Also, if I do place the downloaded books in the Kindle folder, it doesn't appear on the device. HELP! I'm in China so whisper net is not an option, and I'd really like to read some new books on my Kindle.

It should be working exactly as it did with your pc. The kindle should appear as a usb drive and you should be able to open the drive and see the individual folders.

If this isn't working then you should try rebooting your kindle. Make sure that your kindle isn't connected to anything then hold the power switch for 30 seconds and then release. The kindle should reboot. Reboot your Mac while you are at it.

And since you just recently switched to an apple computer there is something you should know. The operating system can be very very picky and glitchy when it comes to disconnecting usb devices. With a pc you can just unplug the device and so long as you weren't in the middle of transferring something you wont have any problems. Most of the time though if you do that with a mac it will cause sync problems. You should always eject the device and wait until the mac says it's safe to disconnect.

I use a mac. Hawk speaks of that which he knows not.

Plug in the kindle and it appears as an icon on the desktop. When you double click the icon it will open and folders will appear. You have to drag and drop the downloaded book to the "documents"folder in the open kindle window. If the book appears separately in the kindle window just drag it and drop it into the "documents" folder and then disconnect your kindle(no you don't have to eject it...this is per the apple tech and I've done it many times since with zero problems). Go to your home menu and the book will be there.

I've tried rebooting both my laptop and my kindle and it doesn't change the fact that the documents folder is not visible. No folders are visible when I click on the Kindle icon. It opens, and lets me transfer files in there, just like a USB drive, but when I open my Kindle the files I moved are not visible.

I can't answer why you're not seeing the Kindle's folders (I don't have a Mac)--you should see "documents," "music," "Audible," and a fourth one for collections, I think (might be called ".json). But since you don't see the folders, what you're doing is just transferring the files to the Kindle's root directory, and the Kindle can't recognized them as books to display on your Home page when they're in the root directory.

Christina, you really need to speak to a CS rep, who can help you in real time over the telephone. Go to https://www.amazon.com/kindlesupport, click on the Contact Us button on the right, then click on the Call Us option.

I had to reboot the whole Kindle. Contacted kindlesupport, they helped me to reboot the whole thing and download my library anew. It was a pain, but worth it in the end.

Before you take some drastic measure based on someone else's problem from nearly a year ago, contact Kindle customer service to troubleshoot *your* specific problem.
