We need to have an AUTOMATIC switch from 4g to wi-fi either in the software or hardware. Eating up lots of data time and costs.

Until that time I recommend doing it manually. Not too hard to do.

Paul, you do realize this is an unmoderated customer forum, right?? Amazon will never see your post here, right???

If you want to talk to Amazon, here are the email addresses to use - kindle-feedback@amazon.com or kindle-fire-feedback@amazon.com

EDIT - IMO, I would NOT want to automatically switch from Wi-Fi to 4G. I control how much data time by telling the device when to switch.

Paul is asking for the opposite, Vickie; if a known WiFi network is found, switch to it automatically. I'd be surprised if that's not already in place; I don't have a 4G Fire but iOS devices have always done that. Paul, are you sure it's using 4G even in WiFi range? How can you tell?

I don't have a 4G Fire, but have a 3G KK and 3G paperwhite, and both automatically switch to WiFi. I'd be interested to hear from other Fire owners as to whether this does not work the same way with their 4G models.

Thanks... have not figured out to do that just yet... not seeing that option in the settings... that is, to turn off ATT. I obviously can disconnect from WiFi, but ART is not so obvious.

Paul, I don't know which Kindle you have but putting it into "Airplane Mode" under Settings/Wireless turns off cell service. Then you just switch on WiFi and you're good to go. Reverse to use AT$T again.
