How do you know you have a virus? And if you do, you need to contact customer service because they will want to know how you got a virus and what app to kill that allowed it on your device! I think Amazon will take care of business in this regard.

You don't have a virus on your Fire. There are no credible reports of a virus in the wild on any Android, iOS or RIM device, ever, anywhere, period. This is not Windows.

Chris DiBona of Google wrote that "Yes, virus companies are playing on your fears to try to sell you bs protection software for Android, RIM and IOS. They are charlatans and scammers. IF you work for a company selling virus protection for android, rim or IOS you should be ashamed of yourself. "

The proper question to ask is why does he think he has a virus? If you are so inclined there are free antivirus, adware apps for use on android devices. I personally use Lookout Security as it offers a device locator among other features.

Get an app called Dr Web from the Amazon store (or search for virus in Amazon store as there are several anti virus programs).

Sounds like Running Fox got one of those dumb ads in an app selling useless (or malicious) antivirus software.

If you are having problems with your Fire ( I doubt if it is virus)just set it back to factory settings and it will be fixed. You will have to install all of your apps and books again.

I don't have a Fire, a Keyboard instead, but thought I'd mention this. Yesterday I was in Starbucks (in a Fry's supermarket) and bought a latte and tried to logon to their wifi to read some blogs. I was stuck in an endless loop with a Quest Communications screen that said I had a virus. My screen showed the fry's logon trying to load in the address bar. I ended up going to another Starbucks down the road (inside Safeway grocer). I couldn't log on to their site until I cleared history and cookies because that Quest thing was still stuck on my screen (even after I had turned off wireless for 10 min.) Thought I'd mention this because it's never happened before but seemed weird.

I think I did get a virus on the Fire last night. I had a lot of email activity to my address books at the exact same time I tried to log off after watching Downton Abbey. The problem with the Fire is that you cannot sign on and off of email sessions as with the iTouch. The Fire stores the password in memory- it's the only way the email app works.

Don't be hating on the posters saying it's porn. I am a 67 year old grandma...believe me porn is the last thing I want to watch.

The time and date keeps changing randomly. I cleaned the cache cookies history etc don't know what to do

Although I agree with you in most respects, it is now September, 2012. SOMETHING keeps killing my Fire by preventing it from charging. I've my suspicion, but cannot prove that the suspected app is causing the blasted thing to instantly turn the system off and when the charging cable is removed from the device it reboots. Had it been just ONE Fire that it happened to, that would be one thing, however, I've had it happen twice. Amazon kindly replaced them but it still drives me nuts.

Facebook is the only page I am having roblems with - same as Tusdie above. Get a security warning "this site may be unsafe" message when trying to get on FB. I am in my own home when using the Kindle, not out and about.

If you're getting security warnings and are having problems with your apps, check your date and time. That will cause those problems.

To change the time:

1st Gen Fire go to Settings (round gear icon) > More > Date & Time > Automatic = On and then change the Time Zone

2nd Gen Fire and Fire HD go to Settings (swipe from top) > More > Device > Date & Time > Time Zone

Have your wi-fi on and your time will correct itself.

I'm not sure if I have a virus but my kindle is giving trouble and sticking

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 2, 2012, 5:27:56 AM PST
What do you mean by sticking?

Have you tried a reboot?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 2, 2012, 2:15:41 PM PST
Okay, folks, I'll stick my nose into this myth. There are NO viruses that can invade anything Android. Kindle is an Android-based O/S. My best suggestion is to simply hold down the off switch for 20 seconds and restart it. I've had identical difficulties and doing the above works 100% of the time. Who am I to say this? Besides having a Ph.D. in computer science and being a retired Microsoft engineer, I'm not anyone in particular, but my specialty is trouble shooting.
