I'm having trouble charging my Kindle and called amazon. they're willing to give me $100 off a new Kindle.... before I do that, though, I want to try to repair my old one (I really don't want to spend almost $200 if I don't have to)

My question is this: Do I have to send in my old kindle? Also, will my trying to fix it nullify the $100 off they're willing to give me?

You need to ask Amazon, not us. But, really, if they give you a $100 discount, they will want yours returned, don't you think?

Actually, I'm not repairing it, but thinking about having someone do it. I thought that maybe something similar HAS happened to other Kindle owners so they might be able to offer something productive.

Apparently not. Thanks anyway, though

From another thread:

Amazon doesn't replace Kindle batteries, but there are some 3rd-party battery replacement kits available. This site offers good instructions -

That advice was for someone with a Kindle Keyboard, who likely needed a new battery. I don't know what model Kindle the OP has, or what the charging issues are. Replacing a battery if the charging port needs to be re-soldered won't help much...

Greymouse - Do you have a 1st Gen Fire?

Any cell phone repair or computer repair shop should be able to help you. If the USB port is not damaged (only loose), all they have to do is open the Fire and re-solder the USB port. It's a repair that should cost around $40. Don't take it to some place like Best Buy. Take it to an actual repair shop.

Here are some YouTube videos of people doing their own repairs:

What size Kindle Fire HD do I need to attach a keyboard? Does the keyboard use Blue Tooth? Are there covers that hold the keyboard and the KF HD?

Susie - Either the 7" Fire HD or 8.9" Fire HD can use Bluetooth keyboards.

I have this one, and it's very nice.
