I've been having a problem with it too. I wouldn't say it crashes 95% of the time but often enough. It's frustrating. And lately my Kindle has been freezing up as well. I have the KF that what you have?

Don't pound your computer in frustration yet, the slow Internet connection isn't just you. The Web has been under one of its biggest-ever attacks since a Dutch Web-hosting company caused service to be disrupted and slowed down. Here's how it went down: a Geneva-based spam-fighting group, Spamhaus, temporarily added a Dutch firm Cyberbunker, to an email blacklist that blocks out spam-and Cyberbunker did not react well. Cyberbunker infamously operates out of NATO bunker and boasts of hosting any Web site "except child porn and anything related to terrorism"-which is most likely how it ended up on the list of spammers in the first place. In retaliation, Cyberbunker launched the attack, which has slowed down many sites, including Netflix and other services.

Well I take back what I said. Tried Silk for the past 30 minutes & it crashed 4 times. Ugh. Maybe I will attempt to root the thing.

Clear the cache in Silk and turn off optional encryption.

Encryption has been off & I cleared the cache maybe a week ago & don't do much browsing on my KF but I'll try it again. Thanks.

Also be sure to uninstall any apps you are not actively using or won't use in the near future. Some apps collect contact data or monitor your surfing habits and take up a lot of resources.

Amazon has improved Silk just a tad lately, but it has been the worst browser I've ever used on my original KF and now my KFHD 7". It's the most frustrating browser to use. And worse yet, you can't even download Opera or Dolphin on the KFHD unless you sideload it. It's not a good sign when a significant amount of KF users are using different browsers other than the stock browser. I can see how Amazon seems to dislike the idea of someone customizing their tablet to something they're comfortable with, but geez, the Silk browser is just unacceptable. I managed to sideload a decent Chrome .apk onto my KFHD and haven't had issues or crashes since.

You can get Dolphin from the Amazon Appstore.

The good thing about any computer is the choice to use different apps or programs. If one doesn't work for you try another. I haven't used a stock browser for anything in years.

Don't expect Dolphin to cure web browsing problems. It frequently freezes the entire KFHD8.9 for minutes at a time until the system finally confirms that Dolphin is not responding and asks if you want to close it. At other times Dolphin simply crashes back to the Home screen. I use it for some sites but not for others. Silk displays some web pages that Dolphin can't handle at all. KFHD8.9 is thus limited to casual browsing only. Dolphin has the annoying habit of opening web pages at the bottom rather than at the top of the page.

I have a Kindle and a Fire issues, knew what I was going to use it for and that it would meet my, surf the web, play a few apps, play movies and music while traveling, access my books. Both work beautifully and are used everday. I couldn't beat it for the price and amenities I find useful as a Prime member and having family spread across the US who can also partake in this each their own. I think most people don't fully realize what they are buying or not buying as far as the features this tablet has, or doesn't have...poor shopping on you/their part is not a reflection on the beauty of the Fire lineup, but on the people making the poor choice

The constant complaints of the device Just shutting down and never ever being revived, that's the too often reported tale. You're the lucky one. Read the reviews, then if you're a gambler, buy it. But remember you were fore warned by a lot of others, who experienced the black screen of death.

Do you know of a list of most reported problems?

Yes. There is a multitude listed her on the Kindle thread. Text to speech, overheating, dead screen, speaker's dead or dying, keyboard problems, no screen lighting, pages skipping without commands, charging port is very fragile Just look through the Fire one to three star reviews. My Kindle Keyboard with wi fi and 3g works great. Hope you're able to work out of your problems.

I had the same issue while using the silk browser! Contacted customer support and they sent me a replacement. However my new replacement is displaying the same thing. Does anyone know of a reviewable error log?

Just got an e-mail from this forgotten thread and see that I posted a note about Dolphin problems on April 13.

Since that time I've settled on Maxthon Web Browser for Tablet

It's not without problems, such as entering at the bottom of a linked page instead of the top, but at least it almost always goes to the correct position on a page with anchors while Silk and Dolphin mostly ignore such niceties.

Most importantly, it is very unusual for Maxthon to freeze while browsing as Silk and Dolphin did constantly. Maxthon made browsing on the Kindle usable for me.

Has all the crashing using the browser stopped during the month of June? It appears that I am the only one having this problem! What did you folks do to to stop this?

I'm having a problem. Just got my new HD Fire. Worked great for about 1 month and now freezes all the time. Silk and apps and the key board will not appear when I need to type information in. I called support and they wanted to do a hard reset. I have the original fire and no problems like this! Trying to decide if I should send it back!

It is a computer and like any other computer it needs to be reset/restarted every now and again. It is not a defect. Just do the hard reset and it will run better. Another thing that helps isclearing the cashe occasionally.
