Busy Mom says:
Does anyone know if Amazon is planning on coming out with a new Kindle sometime in the near future?

SeaLevel274 says:
Someone probably does, but no one here that can say. They normally come out with new models in the late summer/early fall.

They usually release new devices the same time each year. Usually late Fall just before Christmas.

My Tarot Cards say if they do, it will be before the holidays - sometime between Sept. & Nov.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 4, 2014, 8:23:49 PM PDT
Maybe your cards and my magic 8 ball need to get together and narrow down a date. LOL

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 4, 2014, 8:24:30 PM PDT
LOL! Yeah, we can do that. =D

So - what would be on your wishlist for this putative kindle? (paperwhite or fire?). I find my PW is very inconsistent re responding to touch - page turns seem too sensitive but sometimes I have to jab the screen several times to get the menu to pop up. My other wishlists are probably outside realm of what can be done...

Jwb52z says:
My "wish list" will never happen, but I want a physical keyboard most of all and a color e-ink screen.

All I really care about is the rumored physical page-turn buttons in addition to the existing touchscreen page turns. It probably isn't that important to most readers but I have arthritis in my hands and am a very fast reader (2 to 3 pages per minute), so I get frequent pain and cramps in my fingers with the screen taps but have no pain using the buttons on my Basic Kindle.

R. Thomas says:
I'd love a color e ink screen too. I would also like just a black and white screen that one could switch to when desired, and also have the current screen as well. I'd love a non glare screen, but my son tells me that I can just buy one of those, heh.

I do use a Bluetooth external keyboard with my kindle hdx and it works very well. I found it at target. I wanted to buy locally so that I could test the "clickityness" in person. I also wanted to be sure that I was getting a full sized keyboard. It works with my ios devices as well.

bookoholic says:
My biggest wish is being able to listen to audiobooks and have the e ink screen as well. Like my old touch screen and paperwhite combined. I know, buy the fire hdx, but I also want the smaller lighter weight. Must drive 'em crazy that we always want newer better different. But it keeps us buying new products.

R. D. Clark says:
The longer I go without a new Kindle, and the more books I read on my PW1, the leas I care whether there's a new model. I'm really more than content with what I have.

My biggest worry is that by the time I need a new one, the entire product category will have disappeared, to be replaced by something that suits me less well.

Jwb52z says:
That's exactly why I want a new model with a physical keyboard. I do not like touch screens at all. Unless they make a new model with a physical keyboard, when my K2 US only model finally breaks, I won't have an option.

Jay says:
Yeah. They are getting ready to release a New Kindle. It will be a 14 inch, 4X screen, and the battery will be nuclear powered, and it will cost $89,000.00, and come with 100TB of Ram. Because of the lead lining, to block radiation leaks, it will weigh 389 pounds. Once you buy it, you will be listed as a National Security Risk-due to the hazard of a radiation leak-and you will be watched by Military Intelligence agents 24/7 for the rest of your life. Aren't you glad you asked?

K. Percy says:
I do appreciate a good clickety keyboard! Not many people would understand that! :)

What brand is the one you got? May I ask what types of things you use it for?

K. Percy says:
I know exactly what you mean! I was looking at buying a bunch of old kindle kb's because I didn't think I could live without the keyboard, but so far I dont' miss it on the pw.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 9, 2014, 10:39:50 PM PDT
I seriously doubt there will ever be another Kindle with a physical keyboard. IMHO

M. Kean says:
I was really hoping they would announce a refresh at the phone event. We keep hearing a new paperwhite having buttons you squeeze, in some way. Probably higher resolution, lighter weight. I'd love an audio jack or speaker for audio books. We'll probably see them in September if I had to guess.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 9, 2014, 11:55:27 PM PDT
I was surprised by the lack of audio in the PW. Again, though, I doubt there will be a keyboard model. With a touchscreen device, a keyboard is redundant and only adds cost and more things to break.

Posted on Jul 10, 2014, 3:57:41 AM PDT
Yep! The new Kindle will have a terabyte of memory, a light for reading in the dark, a keyboard that is easily hidden when you don't want it, a gift card for $300 of free e-books, free narration for every e-book you get, and will automatically download recommended books at no charge.

Or maybe I'm just a daydreamer.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 10, 2014, 4:01:09 AM PDT
I have a K3 and thought I would really miss the physical keyboard when I moved to a PaperWhite. I was wrong. The virtual keyboard is actually a lot easier to use.

I still have the K3, but I don't miss how slow it got when I put too many books on the poor thing.

Jwb52z says:
I do realize that. I just hate touch screens completely.

Posted on Jul 11, 2014, 9:50:42 PM PDT
I would like to see a feature where you can listen to the books and play games at the same time.
