Download via usb

Some library books must be downloaded to your computer and then transferred to the kindle via usb; apparently author's request. I have downloaded several library books using this method, although most are downloaded wirelessly. I currently have a downloaded book on my computer and when I attempt to copy it to the Kindle document file, it refuses to accept it. I have tried both copying and dragging; neither work. Does anyone know what this is about? (I use a Mac.)

Is it an .azw file, or did you accidentally get a epub or other format?

The instructions at this link should help. There is even a video:

Yeah, I noticed that for the first time yesterday. I looked at the details of the ebook and it was a book published by Penguin (boo, hiss) who has pulled all of their ebooks from Overdrive. I suspect that they forced Overdrive and Amazon to do this as part of the transition.

What I did was hook up my Touch to my PC, and when it asked me where to save the file I selected the documents folder on my Touch so it went directly there through my PC. That worked fine.

It should have worked first downloading to your PC. I noticed for some reason that the selection on the right defaulted to my Kindle for PC app instead of one of my e-ink Kindles. Make sure you select your KINDLE before downloading. These files get a copy protection inserted to make them only work on the device specified when you download.

Mary -- also make sure you are copying the file to the Kindle's documents folder and not the main folder.

It's an .azw file.

Thanks for the help. I started over; deleted the original download on the computer, downloaded it from amazon again, transferred to the kindle with no problems. Maybe the first time the file was corrupted? Anyway I got it.

P. Fisher says:
I have just downloaded a book to my computer, but when I try to open it I get a message that says this book could not be opened. "Please delete it from the device and then download again." I have done this several time, but still get the same message. And if I transfer it to my Kindle touch, I get the same message.
What am I doing wrong?
