My 10 year old recieved a kindle fire for Christmas and we have not registered it yet. I am admittedly illiterate, and didnt know if I should register it to her name or mine. Any suggestions?

Seeing as she is only 10, I'd do it in your name and limit what she can download.

That is very good advice. No one under the age of 18 should be using Amazon services without supervision:

If you use this site, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and password and for restricting access to your computer, and you agree to accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account or password. Amazon does sell products for children, but it sells them to adults, who can purchase with a credit card or other permitted payment method. If you are under 18, you may use Amazon.com only with involvement of a parent or guardian. Amazon reserves the right to refuse service, terminate accounts, remove or edit content, or cancel orders in their sole discretion.

Even with it registered to your name, you can customize it so her name appears on the homescreen.
You will need a credit card on file before apps can be downloaded. This can be a prepaid card available from CVS or Walmart.
Registering it in your name will mean you get an e-mail every time your child buys something even if it is free.
