Friend and her husband each have an iPad and both iPads are registered to the same iTunes account and they want to leave it that way. Husband downloaded kinde app from his amazon account and therefore the app is on both Kindles. My friend wants to add her own Kindle app that has access to her amazon account as opposed to using his account to buy her books. When she tries to add the Kindle app to her ipad, it, of course, shows that the Kindle app is already loaded and you can download again. Anyone know a work around for this?

Did she try reregistering the app on her iPad to her Amazon account?

Each iPad app should be able to be registered to their own Amazon account. She should just de-register the app on her iPad, and register it to the other Amazon account.

She can't be registered to both accounts. She needs to delete her Kindle app and have her husband deregister her device from his account. Then she can download the Kindle app from iTunes and login with HER Amazon account info. That they share an iTunes account shouldn't matter.

Keep in mind that once her ipad is deregistered from his Amazon account she will no longer have access to books purchased on his account.

Thanks everyone for your responses. She is going to try deleting the app and adding it again. However, I am not hopeful that will solve the issue as when she deletes the app, it is most likely going to delete the app from her husband's iPad also (since the 2 iPads are on the same iTunes account) and add her app to his iPad. My husband and I are both on the same iTunes account, and everytime either one of us adds or deletes an app, it happens on both iPads.

I'll let you know what happens.

R. D. Clark says:
You may end up reinstalling the app on both iPads, but that's not the point. The point is (a) to delete the app *and its data* from both iPads; (b) to then make sure they are also deleted from Manage Your Kindle; (c) to reinstall the app on the iPads; and (d) register only one iPad to the husband's account, and the other to the wife's, when first activating the newly-installed app.

This assumes that the iPads are each backed up and synced individually, each with its own name, to iTunes.

Okay, we got it working with the help of our IT guy who is an Apple fanboy. It actually was very easy. Just go into the Kindle app on her iPad, deregister the device from within the app and than reregister the device using her Amazon account information. Leave his alone. They each now have the Kindle app tied to their individual Amazon account, but the two iPads remain tied to one iTunes account, which is what they were aiming for.

That's what His Majesty Al and Meja said right at the beginning :o)

BTW, if you need to access books from two different Amazon accounts, it can be done by registering Kindle app to one of them, and browser-based Cloud reader ( https://read.amazon.com ) to another.

You are absolutely right. I misread what they were saying and thought they meant to delete the app. In fact, until our IT guy showed me, I didn't realize you could dee register the app directly through the iPad.

Ok, so my husband and I share an iPad which I registered to use my kindle app. Can't we sign off or switch users or do I have to deregister?:(

One of you could use the Cloud Reader via the Safari browser.

My question is similar to Christiana. I have 2 kids 1 ipad They both have kindle account but need to sign out and the next one sign in so they have their library open and not the others. So i don't want to deregister an account i want to have multiple accounts registered through the app or have multiple readers on one ipad. Any solutions? Thanks Kathy

Have one kid use the iPad app and the other use Cloud Reader on the Safari browser. Details for apps here:

You can download Kindle Cloud Reader as a separate App now, which makes it even easier.

This thread was started 3 years ago. They most likely have it sorted out by now.
