Free Books and Chat Book Discussion

Yay! The votes are in, and have been tabulated. In an overwhelming win, our book for the next book discussion is

Firefly Beach by Meira Pentermann
When Beth LaMonte rents a cottage on the coast of Maine, she wishes only to withdraw and paint. A mysterious ball of light disturbs her peace and leads her to a secret beach where she finds the diary of a girl who disappeared in 1975. Now Beth is on a mission, not only to bury her own past, but to put to rest the spirit of Firefly Beach.

Looking forward to our first book discussion of 2014!

RL is hopping, but should slow down now - suddenly found myself on Pintrest looking for DIY edible gifts so I must be getting ready for the holidays:)

I find I am good at reindeer names...

Papoosed: An Essie Cobb Senior Sleuth Mystery - Cozy Mystery

The Happy Haven Assisted Living Facility is a home for senior citizens--not newborn babies. So, when one of the kitchen workers asks ninety-year-old resident Essie Cobb to secretly care for his missing co-worker's infant, she is flabbergasted but determined. Along with her intrepid friends--Marjorie, Opal, and Fay--amateur sleuth Essie sets out to hide and protect the baby--and find his missing mother. Unfortunately, Essie is expecting to deal with exterminators, suspicious neighbors, virus outbreaks, and the snowstorm of the century. Luckily, Essie is one smart cookie, and if anyone can manage to reunite a mother and child right before Christmas--it's Essie.

Hidden (Hidden Series Book One)
Sixteen-year-old Leah Grant has given up on being normal. She'd settle for stopping the voices in her head, intrusive visions of the future, and better odds of making it to her seventeenth birthday.

That's the thing about pretending to be human in a world where magic used to exist - at any moment, her cover could be blown and she'll be burned to death like the rest of the witches.

Everything changes when she loses control of her powers and flees the orphanage she grew up in. She desperately wants to be invisible but finds her face plastered on every news channel as humans panic over the possible resurgence of her kind. And now the hunters won't give up until they find her.

Making friends for the first time in her life and falling in love with one of them drives her to discover why she is unlike any being she's ever met - human or otherwise. The dangerous powers inside of her that would repel Nathan, her new, handsome reason for living, are priceless to some. The locked up forever kind of priceless. And to others, they are too dangerous to allow her to live.
Let's hope she can stay hidden.

Thanks for starting, Sandy! I feel so neglectful of my friends here.....I love you all and wish you the very best during these holidays ( and busy holiday preparation)!! I am not finding much free time for chatting, but I am thinking of all of you.🎄🎄🎄

LOB,
I never thanked you yesterday or answered your question about stockings. I wasn't going to do stockings this year, but all the conversation changed my mind, so I'm off today to do stocking shopping. I need to shovel the snow off the driveway first, so I need to get busy. I just want you to know how much I appreciate you!!

redandwhite,

I loved the J. Lawson ecard! Thank you....it was beautiful and made me feel peaceful. 🎄

Sun Kissed (The Guardian Angel Series Book 2)

Easy Ice Cream Recipes - Homemade Decadent Recipes You Are Sure To Love (The Easy Recipe)

Posted on Dec 17, 2013, 7:10:11 AM PST
Terry, if you are around, last night, I found a wonderful box filled with Christmas decorations.
Thank you so much, they are beautiful. They are perfect. You had me crying that I couldn't read the note until this morning.
Since they are from Texas, the Santa had to be dressed as a Cowboy, I love it.
With "pay it forward" that has been bestowed upon me, I will only have time to "pay it forward".( if that makes any sense) Thank you for making it such a beautiful day.

The Lonely Christmas Tree (Illustrated)
A short bedtime story full of Christmas magic. A lonely tree stands in an empty field on Christmas Eve. Will the Christmas star grant his only wish? Written for children, but enjoyed by all.
As Promised! A fully illustrated version of the new Christmas Classic.

The Twelve Dogs of Christmas (All the Creatures of Christmas)
More fun with Whitlark's Creatures of Christmas. A perky pack of pooches
(there are a lot more than 12!) from the One Hundred Dogs and a Cat series and puzzles gives us another raucous rendition of a Christmas classic. Kids sing a long with the lovable hounds, as they laugh and learn. Fun for all ages. Great for counting, word recognition, and vocabulary, as well as learning about people and animal activities!

The Twelve Cats of Christmas (All the Creatures of Christmas)
More fun with Whitlark's Creatures of Christmas. A select crew of cuddly cats (there are a lot more than 12!) from the One Hundred Cats and a Fish series and puzzles gives us another raucous rendition of a Christmas classic. Kids sing a long with the lovable cats, as they laugh and learn. Fun for all ages. Great for counting, word recognition, and vocabulary, as well as learning about people and animal activities!

Good morning Sandy and thanks for the start.

Hmm - my brain is forcing me to pay attention here.
1 - His dog
2 - The children
3 - a cherry
4 - Twas the Night Before Christmas poem
5 - fur covered with ashes and soot
6 - Max
7 - Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus
8 - out on the lawn
9 - Moby Dick
10 - R. May for a coloring book for Montgomery Ward
11 - a sword
12 - 9 - Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph
13 Blitzen and Comet
14 This one i didn't know so I looked up ole Rudy on Wikipedia and it seems there is some confusion about which one of the original 8 is his dad. It might be Donner and his mom is Mrs Donner or it might be Blitzen and his mom is MItzi. I vote for Mitzi and Blitzen. :)

Elizabeth - glad they arrived in one piece....well, I figured along with the things you loved, you also lost all those ornaments from well meaning friends and family with questionable taste that you can't throw away because they are bound to check for them, but you can put on the back of the tree so it looks balanced - ergo, what better than a Texas cowboy on a New Yorkers tree? :) Merry Xmas. And just ask LOB how much fun I had......I looooooooooooooooooooove sales!

Elle, Very good.. You have almost all of them right.. but I'm going to wait just a bit to post the answers..
