J. Scott says:
do you need to "close" apps on the kindle fire 8.9 to preserve battery life? If so how do you close them

Posted on Dec 28, 2012, 6:58:46 PM PST
No, most apps don't have any way to close them. The Android OS takes care of that. You just need to shut it down when you aren't using it.

I find that really annoying, I don't want Audible on there at all, much less two processes of it running at once

Return the Fire then. It is not for you.
I love immersion reading.

Jess says:
Uh, the fire is not for me because I don't see the need to use Audible? Wow, you're brilliant...

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 28, 2012, 7:15:49 PM PST
No because you don't like how it is set up.

Get a Nexus if you want control.

Lisa says:
Android assistant and Es file manager both make closing apps a little quicker and easier. Otherwise you go into applications and force stop them individually.

Audible can't be closed, it opens back up automatically.

Not wanting/needing Audible has nothing to do with liking the Fire.

All tablets appear to have their share of bloat that you can't delete. I guess we just have to live with it.

Jess says:
Right, I of course realize that, doesn't make it any more palatable though...

Audible is part of the Amazon ecosystem.
If you don't like the ecosystem or can't ignore the portions you don't want, I really don't think the Fire is the device for you.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 28, 2012, 7:31:27 PM PST
It makes it much more desirable to the millions of Amazon customers who have both audible and kindle books and enjoy whispersync.

Seriously, I do not understand why you would keep something you find so distasteful.

Jess says:
Well I can see YOU think you know what I like, good job, champ.
The point remains that not being able to at least close Audible is silly, I can close Amazon MP3 and Amazon Video and not have them pop back up automatically, and they are much more a part of this "ecosystem" than audible.

Anyway, thats my last word on it, I love my Kindle, hate the Audible.
Simple really.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 28, 2012, 7:35:39 PM PST
You seem incapable of ignoring it.
Obviously you did little research before buying since whispersync and immersion reading were the selling features for this year, Champ.

Apparently you just want to whine since the viable alternatives I proposed were so well received.

Jess says:
Haahahah, you're a real brain trust, no?
Wanting to close an app is now "whining", wow...
I have ZERO interest in Audible, you love it, GOOD for you, lil' buddy!

Not understanding the forked android Amazon system and accepting it for what it is or moving onto another device is whining.

Of course you can post. It doesn't mean anyone is interested.

I have my doubts about your reading ability, though, even if the books were read to you.

I don't even find the actual Audible app on my 8.9. I even asked people how I could listen to an audio book if I couldn't find the darned app. I was told the HDs don't have the actual appy- app, but it will play audio books automagically.

I use a task killer (Gemini), and I never see Audible. Where is it, even?

Jess says:
Under installed applications, there's two instances of it. All I said is I would like to have the option to close it, and captain blowhard here jumped down my throat
Just double checked, it's there twice and it says 4 services.

I... don't know what that means; I'm a total technot. An app killer won't shut those down?
