Probably a stupid question but is there a volume control on the kindle for when using text to speech and/or audiobooks? I can't find it so am assuming not but I have been known to miss something obvious before. Thanks in advance

On the Kindle 2, it is on the upper right hand corner on the edge of the frame.

GeekyGal says:
Welcome to the club.

On the Kindle 3 [all versions] the volume control is the switch on the bottom edge, over to the left of the earphone plug. Press the RIGHT side of this (+) to turn volume UP and press the LEFT side ( - ) to turn it down.

old thread I know but I wanted to send my thanks to GeekyGal. I was wondering why my Kindle 3 speakers weren't working, turned out the volume was just turned all the way down. Thanks a lot!

My tablet is not working

Gerald, it's best to start a new thread when you're having issues, not resurrect an old on that has nothing to do with your issue.

Also, you are going to have to give us a LOT more details. What tablet do you have? What is happening? What are you doing that isn't working? Etc.

"What tablet do you have?"

My guess? Thorazine.

That's the Kindle Touch, I believe. You access the volume controls from within the TTS menu. See http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_200728400_tts?nodeId=200729910#tts, or the User's Guide on your Kindle.

I thought I bought a Kindle Fire 7" HD last Black Friday. I just tried to use and audio book, & had no sound. I looked, & found no physical switch, & no icon to get into settings. Back to the net, & found lots of info on the different volume control access on each model, but nothing that works for me. I can't even find what version I have.

If you do have the Fire HD 7", there is a physical volume button on the edge of the short side. Hold the device so the camera lens is at the center top, and look on the right edge. You'll see a headphone port, then the volume button/rocker, then the power button.

Artist says:
The Kindle Fire 7" HD was not on sale last November. If you have the 1st gen Fire, it does not support text to speech.

♥ Ann says:
If you bought a Black Friday deal, you probably have a 2nd-generation Fire. Swipe downward from the top of your screen to open the Settings menu. You should find a volume icon there.

While you have Settings open, tap More > Device > About and look at your software version. If it's 10.x.x, you have a 2nd-generation Fire. 7.x.x is a Fire HD 7".

Sure it was. Last November was 2012.

Artist says:
Why would there have been a sale of the 7" HD Fire when it was just offered for sale at the regular price? There were no Black Friday (discounts) of the *new* Kindles in 2012.

There was a Cyber Monday sale on the KF2

I find that a lot of people mix up the "on sale" as in lower pricing, and "for sale" (at any price).

Artist says:
Okay, but is that the 7" HD? No.

I may be assuming that by writing "Black Friday" that she meant she got it on sale. Of course anyone could have purchased a 7" HD on Black Friday for the regular price.

Just Peachy says:
No but there were 2012 models on sale. There was another day that one of the other models was on sale...maybe not Black Friday but in the November/December time frame.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 22, 2013, 12:55:43 PM PST
I misunderstood what you meant. You meant "on sale" as in reduced price. I read on sale, as in generally offered for sale. Available.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 22, 2013, 1:05:54 PM PST
Artist says:
Yeah, I assumed when she wrote Black Friday that it was "on sale" for a reduced price.
