Today, I got home and took my kindle out of my bag and the screen said, "Fastboot Kindle Fire"...I don't know what it means. I held the power button down until it shut off. The start up screen came up but it's just frozen. I don't know what to do. I haven't tried to modify it or anything. Last week, it started shutting itself off when the battery was a little bit more than half way gone... pleeease help

Hi,

Had this issue today, went onto the Customer Service link above and followed their instructions:
Make sure your device is disconnected from any power source.
Press in the power switch and hold it there for 20 seconds.
The screen should turn off, once the screen is fully turned off press the power button in for 2 seconds and release. The device will turn back on and you will see the Kindle Fire loading screen.

Worked a treat.

I've had two kindle replacements and once opened and charged neither would come on, kept saying fastboot with the red and green light then it goes black!!!!
I've called customer support and got assistance but even with their help I was still unable to get it to turn on.
They are obviously aware of the situation but have not made any moves to correct it, since I received another faulty kindle replacement.
Very disappointed. Waiting and anxious, I hop my third replacement works!!.. So frustrated...

Same issue! I was having charging issues with a replacement Kindle from march. They upgraded me to a 2nd generation and sent a replacement. The Fast boot issue happened just like yours. Called customer service and they could not help so I got another replacement for the replacement. Same thing happened again! Customer service said this was the first they had heard of this "fastboot" issue...she even had me spell it because she never heard of it. She said she would send another replacement. I said no thank you and am just returning both replacements. I think Ill look in the NOok. Very frustrated. 3 customer service agents and noone can help or has an idea about this issue.

Thank you. I was freaking out. It is a simple fix when you know what to do, but if you don't know, you wonder if it is the end of your Kindle Fire. :) What a relief!

I just had this happen to me yesterday, out of nowhere my screen was locked on fastboot mode. Not being able to get off of that screen. I tried powering off and on many times as instructed by Kindle Fire Experts. They are shipping me a replacement one tomorrow. One thing that bothered me though with "The Experts" is they speak very poor english, I could not for the life of me understand them. India-Pakistani? I just purchased 7 Kindles for my grandchildren, hoping they dont go bad like mine did.

3)when the kindle shows the words kindle fire, press and hold the down volume button.
