I'm having some issues with my KF-HD 7" need help

Hi all, i'm a huge Amazon fan and love the Kindle Fire line of tablets. I own iPad's, Nexus 7 and a few others.

I received my KF-HD yesterday and it's on FW 7.2.1 and a few issues have arisen but not sure if it's due to the update.

I like a clean carousel so I remove the app tiles from the carousel. What's weird is that the tiles will all reappear at random so I need to remove them again. Is there a solution for this? I have so many apps I hate having to scroll trying to find them in the carousel. I owned the original Kindle Fire and I never had that problem.

I'm getting grey blank app tiles again, yay. It was an issue with the original Fire and it's happening again on the HD version. I tried the "sync" option and they do not update the app tiles that are blank.

Double tapping to zoom in is sporadic and doesn't always work on webpages. I need to retry several times before it works.

Battery life is still terrible. On the original Fire I would get maybe 9 hours of streaming iHeart Radio. It doesn't sound bad but I get around 4 days of streaming on my iPad.

I don't mean to be overly critical because I love the device, and as a Prime member I love how the whole package is well integrated with the device.

I wonder if the 8.9" Fire would alleviate the issues noted with a better processors and bigger battery?

TIA for any suggestions :)

() The zombie bug (i.e. unexpected reappearance of items) in the Carousel has been there since day one. Amazon has promised to fix it. They haven't. The only workaround at this point is to ignore the Carousel and use "Favorites" as your primary UI. It is VERY annoying.

() Try using a two finger "spread" for zooming. I find it's more reliable.

() Download Battery HD from the Amazon Appstore and "calibrate" your battery using the tool it provides. You may be experiencing unreliable battery monitoring rather than excessive battery use.

Apps, except for Music and Video, launched from ADWLauncher EX will usually not appear on the Carousel. You may wish to consider it as an alternative to the stock launcher.

Battery life - make sure Location-based Services is off. Also, the KFHD turns on app Notifications by default. Turning them off, except for items like calendar, weather, and Appstore, may help battery life. Turning off the wi-fi when the device is not in use may help, even though it's supposed to turn itself off automatically when the device shuts down.

Thank you i'll give your suggestions a try. I did resort to pinch to zoom.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of the location based services. I'll try that.

I just wanted to give a big thanks to both Jsh1120 and Woodchuck. What a HUGE difference after trying your suggestions. The battery app made a massive difference which I can now live with. I wasn't aware how apps are set to ON for notifications. I turned them all OFF.

I calibrated the battery which took around 1.5 hrs. What's weird is now the double tap to screen seems to be more predictable. It's nowhere near the sensitivity or accuracy of an iPad but it's much better now.

Again thanks to all for your help! :)
