The Kindle Touch will indeed read me news articles from the .pobi file I email to it. Not only does it read an article after I turn on the TTS, it automatically moves onto the next article after finishing each one. I use Calibre to generate a .pobi (periodicals version of .mobi) file from the RSS feed of the local newspaper.

I had to try it out just now to find that it read beyond the current article, since I never use the Text-to-speech feature. That's one reason I don't mind my Paperwhite not having any audio capability.
