Halo Faire - It sounds like you've already made up your mind to buy something else. I'd suggest you do so.

By the way, the App Store is already open on Amazon.ca.

"No apps ? Does it have android or is it just amazon apps, ? It's not clear...If amazon apps which ones ? Just Half a dozen that actually you might use or what ?"

go to amazon.ca and look under the App Store for Android as that's where the apps for the Kindle Fires are (not in the Kindle Store)

and you can sideload or upload to your Cloud mp3s, there is a netflix App that I would presume might work in C&anada, Flixster, TV online, etc

she's a US resident, so it works fine for her - I'm a French resident and I still love mine for games, cookbooks, surfing the web, taking on trips to check email (I travel a lot) and websites, etc

did you look at the netflix and flixter apps to see if they have the ability to give you what you want? Granted their not free, but no other country other than the US gets free videso (includes the UK, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Japanese kindle stores - they still have to sign up for a video service and pay for it)

No, you don't have to get apps from a third party, you shop for them from Amazon (in your case amazon.ca)

I shop for them from amazon.com from here:

http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=mas_lftnav_KFApps?ie=UTF8&node=3427287011&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=browse&pf_rd_r=15TSKHKEHDAGVCY9WM9J&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1555778982&pf_rd_i=2350149011

over on the left, I select my specific kindle all apps, thus all the apps I see are suitable for my kindle and to make it even easier, since I do have a kindle Fire HD registered to amazon.com (even though I live in France), I'll see its name and a big green check mark right next to the Buy Now button

there are scads of free apps (usually ad supported).

I don't know of any tablet device for which you don't have to get apps from a third party (except maybe Nexus, but I'm willing to bet you pay for some there too).

I don't think the OP wants convincing. Win the winnable, as they say.

One of the main selling points of the kindle fire in the US was the ability to seamlessly download movies, music and books etc all under one roof i.e. from Amazon.
As a stand alone "tablet" there were mixed reviews, it just wasn't that great. So to now release the Fire in Canada/ world without making some content READILY available first, is a major drawback.

That's a reasonable point to bring across; but it seems some from the Amazon "fan club" can't stand anyone who would dare to criticize the company.
It's also perfectly acceptable to ask why would are you having to pay top dollar for this device, when say the Galaxy Tab 2 is just as good, viable, cheaper alternative?

note the date on that and remember that the Kindle Fire HDs were released in October 2012 and they do have bluetooth support, you can install different browsers including Mozilla, expandable storage is going the way of dinosaurs (most devices and IT companies are going to the Cloud), and as for a limited selection of apps, I use other sources for ones Amazon doesn't have like goodereader.com and 1mobile.com which integrate seamlessly with the Kindle Fire HD.

not really a fangirl, but I do like it - I'm not sure if I'd buy one, but as it was a present and does everything I want it to do (I'd rather watch videos on my TV and listen to music on my iPod) so I'm happy. I'm totally enjoying it, especially Angry Birds, Free Flow and Bejeweled. And any gameboy type things I looked into buying coast almost as much as my KF, so I'm really happy to have internet access as well
