Hi all,

I was disappointed to learn today that despite the Kindle Fire being available for purchase in Australia, additional apps are not. I need to download a word processing app and have researched a few suitable ones. However, the best advice I have found is to download apps from I entered the access code but the page freezes on the device. Has anyone had this before, and has advice for how to get around this problem?

You are wrong. The Fire is not available to purchase in Australia from Amazon, if you try you will get a message and they won't sell it to you.

Amazon will not sell the Fire in a country they do not have content available for.

It's what happens when you get a device that Amazon clearly states on it's website won't work in your area.

If you are using, have you enabled using 3rd party apps in your settings on the Fire. I don't have a Fire, since it's not available in this country, so I can't tell you where in the settings. I understand that you can google and get the directions for that.

I don't know where you saw that the Fire was available here - it isn't unless you use a transfer shipping company. Amazon wont send them direct here.

If you have a Kindle Fire in Australia, it was almost certainly shipped to a US address and then reshipped from there either to you or the person who sold or gave it to you. If you also have a US address, you can change your Amazon account profile to use your US address as your "one click" shipping address and credit card billing address, and you will then be able to purchase US ebooks and (I guess) apps. This is to allow US customers who are travelling to access Amazon as normal. MP3s seem to be an excption: you can't download mp3s from Amazon while you are outside the US.

There are online re-sellers who (unfortunately) sell the Fire to Australian customers without warning them of the limitations. It sounds like you've been caught by one of them.

Have you enabled third party apps in your settings? You do need to do that in order to be able to sideload apps from other sources such as getjar.
