Is that 1gb free space or 1gb total space? If it is free space then do a factory reset to clear it out. If it is total space then sounds like they sent you a store demo model. Non of the Kindles have only 1gb of space.

Call Kindle Customer Service so you can get it exchanged for the correct item if the reset did not correct the issue.

It should work. I have a Kindle Fire HD with 16gb srorage, the smallest amount available on an HD, and I have been loading content on it for months, and have 6.6 GBs free.

OTOH, if you really mean memory, as in RAM, rather than storage space, I believe 1GB is the appropriate amount for a Kindle Fire HD 7"?

I also got a Replacement Kindle Fire HD and, after starting it up without use of wireless internet, it had only 1 GB total space. I did a factory reset and connected to wireless and registered it and it came up saying it had 12.6 GB total space. Weird, glad it worked though.
