I just got my Kindle Fire to get ready for the release, I gathered a couple MOBI files of classic books (quite a few from project gutenburg) that I wanted to read and finally I received my device, and put all my Mobis in the Books directory, but for some reason almost all the MOBI files are showing up as Documents, instead of books, they look and read like books.

Is there a reason they aren't all listed as books? One or two are, but that makes matters even more confusing. Any one else noticing this?

All the books that were in my personal documents that I sent to my Fire previously are listed under documents. If you sideload the books using a USB cord you can put them with your books.

I did sideload all my books, and placed them under the G:(drive letter)\Books. However it's still listed under Documents. Is there any more steps I need to do?

what does sideload mean?

Loading books... or apps or documents... anything really, that is from another source. In the case of the fire, it would be anything one didn't get from Amazon.

I'd like to have all my books listed in one place, So I could choose the book tab and decide what to read.

If it's divided and I finish a book I have to look at two different tabs to decide what to read. It's quite inconsistent to say the least.

Not sure why it's doing that. I've tried sideloading two and they both went in with my books.

The same happened to me- some went to books, and some went to documents... I'm waiting for the "kindle specialist" in chat right now. I also want all of my books in the same spot

Have you tried emailing them to your Kindle Fire with "convert" in the subject line?

Just found the solution in another forum- you need to remove the pdoc tag from the mobi output, so I reconverted and now its in books!

Cool

YepIt'sBecky says:
I believe it has to do with the metadata tags if [PDOC] or something similar the file is treated like a personal document. Just guessing though, because that is the way Calibre treats it.

I was able to use my Fire and now I know what you mean. I sideloaded some books today. They were all mobi formatted books that I got from non-Amazon sites. I put them all in the book folder but only some of them are showing up as books. Some of them show up as documents. I have no idea why.

Q says:
"Side-load" means to copy files stored on your computer over to your Kindle via a USB cable.

What's REALLY odd is that the Fire's manual shows up in Docs, not in books. But as long as we know where it is...

Anyone found a fix for this yet?

You all rock, I'll try to figure out how to remove the PDoc tag (unless someone wants to post the steps).

I use calibre, the fire shows up and I save books to my fire and I cannot see them at all on my fire, but in calibre is says they are on my fire...I am so confused.

Download calibre if you don't already have it installed. Add your book to the calibre library, and convert it. When converting, select Mobi as output and change the last setting (mobi output) by deleting the PDOC tag. The books will then show in books, not documents.
