I have bought a new kindle white in Aussie. There were no numbers on the box it was in and I cannot find any when I search the settings. I am trying to register this so that I can download books into it by usb cable. Has any one got any help?

PS56k says:
why do you need a serial number vs your email address as used for your Amazon account ?

BooDittie says:
I'm pretty sure you have to register it via wi-fi, in which case, that information is already there.

Don't know. When I try to download books to the new white they won't go and it says to register first

Do you have wi-fi? Have you connected the Paperwhite to wi-fi?

To register, you don't need the serial number -- just the email and password for your Amazon account.

No wi-fi. Have to download thru usb. Went Okay that way for the old kindle.

Do you have the 3G/Wi-Fi Kindle? If you have the Wi-Fi only paperwhite, you have to register it via Wi-Fi.

PS56k says:
so, you bought it in Aussie land... several questions...
Where are you physically now ?
Do you have an Amazon/email account - in which country ?

To "register" you need to have Internet connectivity,
and on the Kindle "register" screen
enter the exact same email address and password used for your Amazon account -
that will "register" the device.

PS56k says:
If you purchased your "old Kindle" directly from Amazon, then it was already registered to your account. Not sure where your "white box" Kindle bought in Aussie came from, or it's "history" ?

Do you have a nearby free hot-spot where you can connect?

I am in Aussie.I have an Amazon a/c in U.S. I have internet. I do not have wi-fi which the kindle seems to need to register it.

Old kindle from Amazon. White one came from a registered dealer in Aussie. No history.

Unfortunately no. Nearest is about 60 kms from here.

BooDittie says:
You can contact Amazon to confirm but I'm almost certain it will have to connect to wi-fi that one time to be registered. It will also require wi-fi if you're going to import collections from another Kindle registered to the same account.

How can I register Kindle without wireless or WiFi?

Go to "Manage Your Kindle" page on amazon and click on "Register new Kindle" link. You will be asked for the serial number. Serial number can be found either in the Settings page or on the back of your device. Please note that nothing will change on your Kindle device until it actually connects to the wireless. However you can now purchase books and transfer them via USB cable.

This is what I have come up with so far. What I can't seem to do is find a serial number.

BooDittie says:
Then check with Kindle customer service. All I know is that I've read here that it's no longer possible to register without making that one-time connection via wi-fi.

You can find your serial number under the settings section of your Paperwhite. However, you do need to connect at least once to Wi-Fi to register your device.

to find your serial number on a PW

>Home > Menu > Settings > Menu > Device Info

edit to add
if you have the original packaging the "FSN" is the serial number

CBRetriever says:
That Register New Kindle link is long gone from the Manage Your Kindle page, so the serial number is irrelevant. It was removed almost a year ago.

PS56k says:
BTW - do you have the basic PaperWhite with the default WiFi feature,
or do you have the model that also has the 3G cellular/wireless feature ?

Also - once you find the serial number in the /Settings/Device Info/ menu
- What are the first 4 characters ??
