im not seeing any threads about this, and want to make sure my kindle isnt the only one experiencing this... i dont have any autocorrect happening, even though i have set it to the most aggressive setting. i also dont have auto-capitalization, even though i have ensured that it is also on in the settings.

i have tried a reboot after verifying settings. i have the update that came out today. i just want to determine whether this is isolated or if everyone is having the same issue.

Auto correct isn't working for me, but it is underlining the misspelled words. Auto capitilization is working. However, keypress sound is not; I have my keyboard set for sound and can hardly hear it...I have to hold the Fire to my ear then I can hear a teeny, tiny click.

just figured out that the autocorrect works in the email app, but not in the browser. seems odd that it would depend on the app...... reported to a conract in cs to see if they xan pass it up the chain.

My keyboard isn't working correctly at all! I'm trying to type a simple word in the search area and random letters appear. I hit the delete button and random letters appear. I can't delete or backspace without random letters just appearing! What the??

Have you done the hard reset? Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds (time it). Press the power button one more time. Wait until your home page fully loads before trying anything.

If this doesn't correct this, then contact Kindle support by clicking on help at the top of the page and then the contact us button on the next page.

Are you using bluetooth or the onscreen keyboard, just so I know what you are talking about?

Does it work correctly on a different app (I discovered my onscreen keyboard behaves much better anywhere besides the browser)?

If it's a bluetooth keyboard, do you have another device you can test it with? My bluetooth keyboard works fine on every device I've tested except the fire hd, and has massive key repeat problems on the fire. (I've reported issues to cs)

I'm not using Bluetooth at all. I just got this Kindle HD7 yesterday. The keys just don't match the letters that I'm hitting. And if I hit delete - more random letters appear! I can't type a word or sentence at all without it jumbling all up.

Ok, that sounds much more serious than what I've seen. I recommend contacting cs to have them take a look.

What is "cs?"

CS = Customer Service

Probably a silly suggestion, but try cleaning the screen really good. I play Majhong at night before bed, and I noticed every tile I tried to click was showing up and over several spots. (Drove me nuts!) I have really nice cleaning cloths that are for our cell phones (they are a bit tacky, and made of microfiber.) Anyway, I gave it a good cleaning with one of those, and voila, wherever I clicked showed up correctly. (I looked everywhere for a setting to recalibrate the screen but didn't see it.)

I do not have any auto correct happening either. I don't have word suggestion, auto capitalization, any functions of the keyboard working. I was talking with amazon chat today and everything they walked me through in chat did nothing. Yet another disappointment with this Fire HD.

I have plenty of autocorrect using the Dolphin browser.
I can't remember after a week how Silk was with it. I installed Dolphin to get Flash.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 23, 2012 6:00:08 PM PDT
What is Dolphin? What is Silk?

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 23, 2012 6:02:22 PM PDT
 nospin says:
Silk is the web browser pre-installed on the Fire.
Dolphin is a different android web browser.

I do not want to have to install a different browser. It doesn't work on part of my kindle. I was on chat for an hour and went through multiple things with CS to try and fix the issue and nothing they told me worked. This is now my third Kindle. My second with this problem.

TuxGirl says:
Replacing the kindle won't fix the keyboard issue. It's a software issue. I'm working with a cs contact to ensure they pass the info to the development team. Until a fix comes out, the only solution is another browser, or returning the device for a refund, I guess. It's a problem, and it shouldve been caught in testing, but it wasn't. I'm going to wait on a fix, personally, but i agree it's a major issue...

The problem with mine is is that I cannot get a refund at this point. I bought my original kindle in Feb and it started having issues with charging and then stopped altogether. So I just set it aside and just recently took it back to the store. Due to the fact that it was a VERY common kindle malfunction the store had no problems letting me exchange it and that is when I got the HD. So since I cannot get a refund I am stuck exchanging yet another Kindle. It is getting kind of old. I am very disappointed in amazon at this point.

@TuxGirl: Are you having the problem on the first gen Fire or one of the newly released Fires? Thanks.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 24, 2012 7:59:11 AM PDT
TuxGirl says:
The HD fire. The 1st gen fire didn't have issues with the keyboard.

I'm having the same trouble! The keyboard has a mind of its own. Any fixes for it yet? Nothing is working help!

My KFHD7 keyboard doesn't have auto correct or word suggestion. It's a disappointment as the original Kindle Fire did. I really would like to have these options while I am commenting and replying in Facebook.

If you want to be certain that someone from Amazon hears your feedback, please send an email to or if you have a Fire - we are mainly Kindle owners here, not from Amazon.

Mine doesn't in the web browser, but does in other apps. Try another app and see if you have auto-correct there.

I have reported this to the Pro contact in CS, but haven't heard whether they are working on it or not.
