I have a kindle fire hd 7" and wanted to know how low the percentage in the battery should be before charging. Can anyone help me with this? I don't want to ruin the battery

jh - Don't let it get below 15%. I recommend this free app: Battery

It has a number of useful features.

* Full page state of charge display when the KFHD is connected to a charger.
* User configurable audio announcements of the state of the charge/discharge.
I have mine notify me with a voice at 25% and at 15% (in case I am busy and don't plug it in right away) and at 100% to notify me that it's fully charged.
* Precise state of charge percentage available in your notifications bar - just swipe from the top to see it at any time.
* Estimates of time remaining for various activities like web browsing, music and videos.

If the free app is not compatible with your Fire, I would still recommend the paid app. It's one of a very few apps I have paid for because I was so impressed with it.
Battery+

I'm not affiliated with this app in any way, except as a satisfied customer.

This is also a good battery app:

The best practice is to keep it topped off regularly. Unlike earlier types of rechargeable batteries, the Li Ion batteries used in all models of Kindle don't have much of a memory effect and don't need to be discharged below any certain level before recharging them, although there many be some minor benefit to fully discharging them once a month or so.

As mentioned charge your Kindle any time you'd like. There is no memory effect with Lithium-Ion batteries like with some other previous battery chemistries. Check out http://batteryuniversity.com/ for all kinds of information on Lithium-Ion batteries. It's actually better for Lithium-Ion batteries to be recharged even before they run way down. It's also best for them if they aren't charged to or held at 100% for long periods of time either. I don't know how the charging circuit in the Kindle Fires is set up but I would assume it stops charging at 100% but to be safe I wouldn't leave it on the charger all the time. I, like many people I'm sure, will put their Kindle on the charger over night and take it off the next morning. I just wouldn't leave it on there continuously when not in use. If I happen to check it and it's at 96% or somewhere close to 100% I'll take it off the charger rather than charge it all the way to 100% just because it's slightly better for it. It's not something to obsess over and I won't go out of my way to check it but if I happen to I'll remove it just shy of 100%.
