Can I delete the books after reading to make more room for new ones?

Yes. Books bought from Amazon are stored in Your Media Library at Amazon. Other books might be stored where you purchased them. Otherwise, you might want to make a back up on your computer. Unless it's a book you hated and know you will never ever want to look at again.

Yes. And since Amazon keeps them in your media library on Amazon you can download them again at any time. The Kindle itself holds about 200 books, if you want it to hold more then you can use an SD card.

Long tap on the book title and select "Remove from Device."

(Wow, this is one heck of a zombie thread!)

Press on the cover and hold. A screen to delete the book pops up. It is off your Kindle but in your cloud.

Wow a really old thread. I saw this post saying that the Kindle held 200 books and that you could use an SD card to hold more and wondered what they were talking about! After all the thread was only 4 days old right? Then I saw the year, 2008 v. 2013. :-)
