I woke up to this message on my FB page this morning, this lady befriended on FB a couple of weeks ago.

Thank God for FB - I LOVE your books -- my husband is beginning to worry about me - I am reading your second book and can't put it down - I read until 3 a.m. and when I woke up at 8, the first thing I did before I got out of bed was to start reading again. FB helped me to find your work. Happy Holidays - Merry Christmas.

How sweet!

I thought I'd share an excerpt from Final Justice (Lorne Simpkins thriller (Book Three)) with you.

This is from Chapter One.

Three shots echoed around the room and the Russian groaned.
Again, the Great Room fell silent.
The Russian clutched his chest, and fell to the floor, his blood quickly making a pool beside him.
Several guests tried to escape out on to the terrace, but the armed men herded them back into the centre of the room.
Baldwin's calm, yet assertive voice rose above the commotion. 'Gentlemen, you disappoint me. I thought we were all getting along so well. It's unfortunate that our Russian friend chose to disrespect me, but I hope the rest of you will learn from his mistake. The ball, as they say, gentlemen, is in your court. Now, what is your decision, gentlemen? Am I to take it from your silence the rest of you have no objections to helping me fulfill my ambition or...'
This time the Chinese Finance Minister chose to interrupt his speech. Yet another communist with balls, Baldwin thought, as the man approached the stage and mumbled, 'Robert, we are all friends here, we should discuss your ambition openly and frankly.'
Baldwin's smile vanished. The Chinese Minister, whose position gave him great power, shrivelled in front of him. 'And what do you foresee the outcome being, Mr Foo?' Baldwin asked, through clenched teeth.
Foo's body trembled, he tried to take a step back and bumped into the pretty blonde Baldwin had supplied him for the evening. Julio's colt dug into the base of his back. Panicked the man ran, but three shots from Julio's gun prevented him from going more than a few paces. Foo cried out in agony and slumped as the impact of the bullets sent him sprawling to the newly-polished floor, like a puppet whose strings had been cut.
'Is anyone else going to interrupt me? Speak now, my patience is wearing thinner by the minute.'
The room remained silent.
Baldwin's triumphant laughter echoed round the enormous room, as he sensed his long awaited objective about to finally materialise.

I've just had a wonderful message left on my FB page by a friend, I dissuade my friends from leaving reviews on my books.

Here's what she said in regard to It's A Dog's Life (A DI Lorne Simpkins novelette)

Mel!!!! I read It's a Dog's Life last night - beautifully written, I loved it and I now want to rescue a greyhound (we've been thinking about it for a while) - there is a greyhound rescue not that far from us....well, when I say 'we' I obviously mean 'me' as Hubby won't want another doggy, but I think some company for Bertie would be good!!

Lovely!

I've also got a 10,000 word story FREE today, if you want to pick up a copy. Passion, Fire and Fury It's currently in the top 100 FREE chart.

Here's a snippet from Cruel Justice (DI Lorne Simpkins (Book one)) it's $2.99 but can also be borrowed if you're a Prime Member.

Prologue.

Friday August 30th, 2007

The pain from the welts on the woman's naked back intensified. She had no concept of time, no idea how long she'd been tied up. Her hands had lost all feeling from being tightly bound to an old wooden chair.
Is this how her life would end?
It had taken a while, but her nostrils had finally grown used to the vile stench permeating her temporary cell.
Time, all she had was time. Time to think, time to ask the same question over and over. Who the hell was he? And why was he holding her captive? What unspeakable thing had she done in her life to make a complete stranger treat her this way? I'm a kind and caring person, aren't I?
What type of person kept a woman locked up in a hellhole such as this?
He tortured her with silence when he brought her food, if you can call week-old bread food. She had tried different ways to get a reaction out of him, shouting, reasoning, even her pitiful attempt at begging had fallen on deaf ears. His sneer, and the way his dark eyes roamed her naked body in response, made her skin crawl.
Now her own thoughts had started torturing her. Her aching limbs cried out for warm lavender-oil filled baths, if only to wash away the urine stinging her legs and the faeces clinging to her behind. She felt utterly degraded. It was a far cry from her usual opulent lifestyle.
Agonising minutes dragged into torturously long hours. Please, when will this nightmare end? How will this nightmare end? She asked her maker, repeatedly.
Water constantly dripping in the corner was enough to drive the sanest person mad. She blocked the noise out by reminiscing happier moments, hoping it would help prevent the craziness threatening to seep into her mind. Fearing her life would soon come to an end, she prayed endlessly that her dead husband would be there to greet her when she finally passed over. How wonderful it would be to feel his comforting arms around me now.
Her heart leapt into her throat when the hatch door swung open. The sudden rush of daylight hurt her eyes, causing them to water. She winced and was swiftly reminded that her right eye was swollen from the beating she had received a few days earlier.
The man gingerly made his way down the precarious ladder, followed by another person.
The imprisoned woman's pulse accelerated, furiously gathering momentum. He crossed the stone floor and stopped in front of her.

I'm proud to announce the latest book in the Justice series. Foul Justice (Justice Series (Book four))

Here's the blurb.

Detective Inspector Lorne Simpkins is back on the force. Before she can get comfortable with her new partner, newly-promoted DS Katy Foster, the two are assigned a tragic murder case that looks like a robbery gone wrong. However, when another wealthy footballer's family meets the same deadly fate within twenty-four hours, it is clear the crimes involve something far more sinister.

Keeping her focus on unravelling the complex case isn't easy for Lorne when she learns news that throws her personal life into a spin-her fiancé, M16 agent Tony Warner, is involved in a dangerous covert operation in Afghanistan.
But innocent people are dying on her patch, and someone must catch the killers. Lorne can't allow this Foul Justice to prevail.

I hope you enjoy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comley hits the mother lode, 5 Jun 2012

This review is from: Foul Justice (Justice Series (Book four)) (Kindle Edition)
Foul Justice is the fourth outing for Mel Comley's vixen detective, Lorne Simpkins. Whereas the previous three have been 5-star nuggets, this is the mother lode - by far the best in the series and worthy of taking its place at the front rank of modern crime thrillers.

The story sinks its claws into you with a harrowing opening scene-setter that makes you want to cry out for justice. After that there's nothing you can do but stay on board to see what happens as Comley weaves her gritty tale with the ease of a maestro. Her lead character is a hard-bitten policewoman who has had to fight her corner every step of the way in a male-dominated profession. She's made it to the top and is now trying to solve three horrific murders; deal with the capture of her MI6 boyfriend in Afghanistan; and break in a new partner who seems to have her own fair share of personal troubles.

All three strands of the story come together seamlessly, not least because Comley has the knack for maintaining a frantic pace while taking time to provide the reader with insight into the lives of real people, dealing with real issues. These aren't superheroes, but when the time comes to step up to the plate, you just know they'll be there.

The author's writing style is easy on the eye. There's a steady pace about how she unravels the threads and yet reserves a few surprises in an ending typical of the best crime mysteries. This is a book that readers of the genre can't afford to overlook.

It certainly brightened my day. Just a reminder that you can purchase the first book in the series Cruel Justice (Justice series (Book one)) for only $0.99
