So I was wondering what people were thinking about the many releases of 2012. The new Nile album I thought was great... but its also my first album from them... but I have listened to a good amount of their discography... I don't see why so many people dislike it, I mean I know it had cleans in it but I thought they were very well placed. The new Dying Fetus album I feel is kinda weak compared to their last albums... I think there is only a few solid songs on it. The new Putrid Pile album I think is very solid. I also really enjoyed the new Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, I think its very catchy and memorable. I also found a pretty solid Brutal "Slam" Death Metal album from a band called Devour the Unborn. I have yet to listen to the new Kreator or Prong... but they are on my list and I want to get them ASAP. And what hasn't been released yet that I'm very excited to get my hands on are the new Cytotoxin, the Faceless, Rings Of Saturn, Sylosis, and Testament. And thats about all I can think of right now so give your thoughts on the above and/or talk about other releases and what you excited for or missed out on.

Devour the Unborn blows, and I'm the fruitiest slam f@g around here.

The new Nile has cleans? If Karl is singing like Bocelli, that... would be... the t!ts.

C. Harding says:
The following bands have all released fantastic records this year:

Alcest
Barren Earth
Orange Goblin
Cattle Decapitation
Gojira
Deathspell Omega
Baroness
Spawn of Possession
Woods of Ypres
Hour of Penance
Psycroptic
Beneath the Massacre
Borknagar
Drudkh
Allegaeon

I just picked up the new CD from The Contortionist yesterday and have only gotten to listen to a few tracks, but so far it sounds great if you like technical, off-the-wall, noodling wankery like I do. There are a lot of other bands that have also released great albums this year, but I only have so much time and money to spend on it all. I've had the new Nile and Ihsahn albums - about which I've heard great things - kicking around on my computer but still have yet to get them loaded onto the iPod.

You are going to have to wait a while for the Forbidden album it seems the singer has decided to take some time off do "recharge" his batteries. So it seems the new album has been put on hold for now.

I'm waiting for the new INTO ETERNITY......heard they have a female vocalist fronting the crew now. Awesome band....love "Buried In Oblivion". Also loved their latest "The Uncurable Tragedy". It's a shame that Jon Schaffer stole Stu Block away to join ICED EARTH.

Amanda is only a live singer (not sure if shes a lead or a back up)..Apparently Stu is still the singer for the band

Really? I thought she was recording the new album with them.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 25, 2012, 5:56:12 PM PDT

The following albums are my favorites from 2012 thus far.

Angel Witch-As Above, So Below
Delain- We Are the Others
Luca Turilli's Rhapsody- Ascending to Infinity
DragonForce-The Power Within
Adrenaline Mob-Omerta
Epica-Requiem for the Indifferent

Ascending to Infinity is amazing. I have listened to that album 20 times already and I have only had it for 2 weeks. That said there are a lot of releases in the works for later this year and next year that I am waiting for. Fates Warning is currently writing a new album, which will be the first since 2004, unfortunately it is unlikely to be released this year.

What do you not like about them? And yes the new Nile has cleans but its very very few. I think 1 to 3 parts and their not that bad really.

Posted on Jul 26, 2012, 9:16:53 AM PDT
WOW!!! I can't believe I forgot about the releases from Cattle Decapitation, Allegaeon, Gojira, Aborted, Six Feet Under, Baroness, Psycroptic, Spawn of Possession, and Beneath the Massacre. And I'm still probably forgetting a bunch of others too. 2012 was a great year for metal, and 2013 seems promising with new albums from Deeds Of Flesh and Gorguts already.
