What's the deal e o with Kane, Em?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 26, 2012 1:56:25 PM PST
Kane puts me to sleep. And I don't mean I just fall asleep. I mean... Kane picks me up... tucks me gently into warm bed... lightly strokes my hair while softly singing "Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / You and me and the devil makes three / Don't need no other lovin' baby // Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / Come and lay your bones on the alabaster stones / And be my ever lovin' baby // Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / Your momma's gone away and your daddy's gone to stay / Didn't leave nobody but the baby // Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / Everybody's gone in the cotton and the corn / Didn't leave nobody but the baby // You're a sweet little baby / You're a sweet little baby / Honey in the rock and the sugar don't stop / Gonna bring a bottle to the baby // Don't you weep pretty baby / Don't you weep pretty baby / She's long gone with the red shoes on / Gonna meet another lovin' baby // Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / You and me and the devil makes three / Don't need no other lovin' baby // Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / You and me and the devil makes three / Don't need no other lovin' baby // Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / Your momma's gone away and your daddy's gone to stay / Didn't leave nobody but the baby // Go to sleep you little baby / Go to sleep you little baby / Come and lay your bones on the alabaster stones / And be my ever lovin' baby".

Heck for a period of 6 months, I thought I was narcoleptic because I couldn't finish that dang film. Eventually I did finish (thank you Truckers coffee) but I never felt emotionally invested in the story. The cinematography was beautiful... but for a movie that is constantly labeled "THE GREATEST FILM EVER", it shouldn't feel like work to stay awake... in my humble opinion.

Jon says:
First time I tried to sit through 'Citizen Kane' I was enormously distracted by the soundtrack, being that it was a run-down VHS copy and I thought it was bad filmmaking to blame, not the fault of the format.
Ever since I git to see it on the big screen (age 15), and later on DVD, I have sat on the edge of my seat riveted all the way through.
It's not the greatest movie ever, never was, not even close. It is a great American movie, in my opinion, just not "thee".

For now, Kane gets my vote. Then again, I haven't seen Sunrise, The Passion of Joan of Arc, or The Rules of the Game.

Re: "In your opinion which movie would be "thee"?"

Gosh, see I don't even like the question "What's the Greatest Movie Ever"? It's bound to produce as shifty results as "Worst Movie Ever". I mean how can someone as fun as Ed Wood always be the perennial "Worst" director?! He's no more the worst than Welles is the best.

I can't narrow it without giving myself superfluous handicaps. I'll give a great pick from each decade; and I'll stick to American movies to further narrow it down.
2000s: Mystic River
1990s: Fargo
1980s: Modern Romance
70s: Ulzana's Raid
60s: Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte
50s: From Hell to Texas
40s: The Big Clock
30s: The Merry Widow
20s: The Docks of New York
1910s: Broken Blossoms or The Yellow Man and the Girl
1900s: A Corner in Wheat

I'll give (not necessarily the greatest) one pick as well, American that is:

2000s: Before Sunset
1990s: Pulp Fiction
1980s: Do The Right Thing
1970s: Nashville
1960s: Dr. Strangelove
1950s: North by Northwest (saw it for the first time tonight, now my second favorite Hitchcock film)
1940s: His Girl Friday
1930s: Duck Soup
1920s: The Gold Rush
