Excellent mentions of Verlaine/Lloyd and Kramer/Smith!
I'll add Motorhead's Phil Campbell and Michael "Wurzel" Burston as well...and Scott Gorham/Brian Robertson from Thin Lizzy...

Kudos to those of you who remembered David Gilmour who always seems to escape mention on lists like these. Speaking of escaping mention, great job by Randal for including Terry Kath of Chicago. Listening to his solos on Poem 58 and South California Purples would make anybody a believer! I would like to add two more who were not mentioned: Carlos Santana (who has had THE most influence over me) and Davey Johnstone (from the Elton John Band who made me a lover of rock guitar at the ripe old age of 10).

E. Marks says:
Mick Ronson- Far and away the most influential on me, lyrical and melodical in a way I don't think others are. He always played for the benefit of the SONG.
Pete Townshend- Makes me want to play ANGRY.
Mark Knopfler- Tunnel of Love makes me cry.
Phil Manzanera
Johnny Thunders- No holds barred, just went for "it".
Django Reinhardt- Besides being one of the all time greatest players, such an inspiration to manage it without half his fingers!

There are plenty of other great guitar players, but none who had an impact on me as a person or a musician like these guys.

I went to high school with the sister of Harry Rushakoff (I knew Harry too), a one time drummer with Concrete Blonde. She was slu**y but hot ;) Or slu**y *and* hot...depending on how you see things ;)
