I've tried numerous times to identify a song with no success. It
was out of the mid 80's, by a mainstream group, and some of the
words were: "write a suicide not on a twenty dollar bill". Drives
me crazy that I can't find out who did the song. Thanks.

GB says:
Dire Straits -- Heavy Fuel (Google works)

Last time I was sober, man I felt bad
Worst hangover that I ever had
It took six hamburgers and scotch all night
Nicotine for breakfast just to put me right

'Cos if you wanna run cool, if you wanna run cool
If you wanna run cool, you got to run
On any heavy fuel, any heavy fuel, any heavy fuel

My life makes perfect sense
Lust and food and violence
Sex and money are my major kicks
Get me in a fight I like the dirty tricks

'Cos if you wanna run cool, if you wanna run cool
Yes, if you wanna run cool, you got to run
On any heavy fuel, any heavy fuel, any heavy fuel

My chick loves a man who's strong
The things she'll do to turn me on
I love the babes, don't get me wrong
Hey, that's why I wrote this song

I don't care if my liver is hanging by a thread
Don't care if my doctor says I ought to be dead
When my ugly big car won't climb this hill
I'll write a suicide note on a hundred dollar bill

'Cos if you wanna run cool, if you wanna run cool
Yes, if you wanna run cool, you got to run
On any heavy fuel, any heavy fuel, any heavy fuel
On any heavy fuel, any heavy fuel
Any heavy fuel
Any heavy fuel

"Drives me crazy that I can't find out who did the song." I don't know the Dire Straits song but "She Drives Me Crazy" is by the Fine Young Cannibals.

Finally a good topic of discussion.

Now can you name the artist that has seemed to eluded me for the time being.(AND THE NAME OF THE SONG OF COURSE) I can narrow it down to a black male artist. In the 60's. He sang it on the radio, but you know now they don't say who the artist is anymore after the song. That is lame.
Well some of the lyrics That I can piece together for you is all I have.
Some of it goes, If I didn't love you so, it makes it so very hard to go,
even though my heart aches.
chcrosu line, I can never make you happy, That is all I have. SO try to give me the artist. It has been bugging me for some time now. I don't have the time or patience to find him. I tried lots of web sites and searches, and no go.
Thanks.

possibly Tower of Power's "So Very Hard to Go"? It's from '73, but the lyric sounds right. It's on their self-titled album "Tower of Power".

musiclistsAREus is correct as to the title and artist. I have that song on one of my favorite box sets called "Can You Dig It? The '70s Soul Experience". It's a 6-disc set, I like the first 4 discs best, then it slides towards disco. Unfortunately the box set is out of print but you may be able to pick it up used somewhere.

Man, you are good! Thanks a lot! I was only 13 I guess, it sounded to me earlier (60's) but WOW! What a group. But it was the lead singer so I thought it was just a solo artist but not a group. Tower of Power!
What fine Trumpet playing!
Thanks again!

EF, how hard did u search? All I did was highlight the first line u put up, clicked search, and *voila* there it was, Tower of Power. Are they limiting your computer time at the Institute?

HFTM,
EF was asking about a different song. He was looking for a song with the lyrics "it makes it so very hard to go,". If u google those lyrics, you come up with the band 'Tower of Power', song "So Very Hard To Go". (http://youtu.be/MNSl7rqwG6A).
Does that make sense now?

Now....I'm back with another song that I don't know the name of.
It's def by Pink Floyd, and the words are "Ooooh I need a dirty woman" etc.
I love Pink Floyd, but confess that even though I know their songs so well---
I am often at a loss for the actual titles.

G. Barnes says:
This is a long shot, but a week ago, I was in a bar and heard this song being played. I didn't have my iPhone with me so I couldn't Shazam it. I couldn't hear the lyrics, but I was able to make the chorus "save me". It sounded like Nelly Furtado, but she doesn't have a song by that name (if that is the name of the song). It had a nice neo-soul groove to it.

Can anyone help?
