I seem to remember they did this, but I'm not sure because I can't find it mentioned anywhere...I'd rather have an actual cd, but I also want to listen to an album immediately... So does anyone know? And thanks in advance :)

No, you don't get MP3's on top of the CD.

by buying the CD you get to listen to it immediately. That is the whole convenience of CD. It is also easier to convert the music on CD to your favorite file format; MP3, flac or what ever.

Nope. You don't get both formats together. If you want the MP3's, you'll have to buy those separately.

So it's difficult to convert mp3s to CD ?!

I think not.

JB,

It is just as easy to convert MP3 to CD but you lose detail in the music by going from a lossy format to lossless format.

If the CD has an "autorip" link, then you get the MP3s immediately after you order. I ordered a couple CD's over the weekend and had this happen to me. The CD's have yet to arrive but I already have the rips.

Jim McG is correct (I don't know why someone gave him a 'no' vote). Amazon has a relatively new feature that you get automatic mp3 to your cloud when you purchase a CD. In fact I belive they go back to anything you bought from them since 1999 if the CD qualifies. It is called "Autorip" and it's a great feature.

Yes, it's easy to rip the music yourself, but where there are real advantages. First, you get the mp3 right away and don't have to wait for the CD to arrive. Next, if you have a device with Amazon Cloud Player, I have Kindle Fire HD and iPhone both with access to the Amazon cloud, you get access to everthing in the cloud for free and it doesn't take up space on your device. You can add up to 250 songs not in the Amazon cloud for free as well.

This is a new thing that amazon is offering.

Yes, if it's "Autorip" as answered by several of us and yet, we received 'no' votes. How does a response not contribute to the discussion when it answers the initial question completely?

I know I shouldn't get bothered by 'no' votes but some losers just don't have a clue and you know who you are.

If you're ordering an AutoRip CD, I wonder if there's something else you have to do when placing your order, or if you need to change some sort of setting on your Cloud Player so it starts automatically accepting mp3s of the new CDs you buy...

I only ask because I got Richard Thompson's 'Electric' in early February, but the mp3s still haven't shown up in my Cloud Player. (Granted, I could rip the CD to my hard drive anytime if I wanted to, but it's just that this AutoRip feature apparently isn't working quite like it was supposed to.)

I did not have to do anything to get Autorip to work. I am not aware of a setting. Did the CD you ordered actually say Autorip eligible? I have noticed that sometimes Amazon will might offer more than one verion of the same album they don't all say Autorip. It's still pretty new but the coolest thing was when they went back loaded a ton of MP3s of albums I bought since 1999, which was a ton. Very cool feature. It's now so much better to buy the physical CD with Autorip because you get the MP3 immediately and the physical CD follows. I won't be ordering very much from iTunes anymore.

Yup, the little AutoRip>> icon is underneath the price:

Electric [Deluxe 2CD]

The only explanation I can think of is that this title might not have been an AutoRip CD at the time I ordered it, but Amazon decided to make it one sometime after its release...

Even so, I agree it's pretty cool that most of my past non-Marketplace purchases are in the Cloud Player now. :)
