I believe there's still a museam in Las Vegas devoted to Liberace.

I have over 30 Pat Boone albums (vinyl)--I wanted the hits comps as a counterpoint to Elvis for the period, but the other titles followed me everywhere like stray dogs that kept showing up lusting after my garbage cans. Listening to him trying to keep up, but always behind, teen/pop tastes in the 1960s induces a sense of impending nausea. I think of him as the rock 'n' roll Bing Crosby. "...Do the Wang Dang Taffy Apple Tango Mambo, Cha, Cha, Cha...." (Yes, it's a real song, a Billboard charted hit single!)

Rizzo - Bill Gaither, huh? We have a winner! :)

Actually, I have a grudging respect for him and Gloria. The minister of music at my church will occasionally pull out one of their songs for a service (I play in the praise band), and after I give him a hard time about it, it always works well with the theme for that service. Thanks for the post.

I say:

Very people are sincere about liking Liberace's music. It's actually very mellow like anesthesia; but Liberace was never about the music in the first place. Indeed, his record sales were never spectacular. Liberace was all about the glittery costumes, the glittery pianos, and the candelabras. He was an outstanding entertainer; a fantastic comedian and public personality, who just happened to be a fairly good piano player who wasn't quite good enough to be an accomplished concert pianist on par with Horowitz or Van Cliburn. His act which your grandmother enjoyed was instrumental in putting Las Vegas on the map.

As I say, people didn't really go to see Liberace for the music. They went to see Liberace to see Liberace.
